Anti-spin rear end

My 03 HO CTD 2500 4X4 with 4.10s seems to grind in the rear when cornering at low speeds. Is some thing wrong with the rear diff. Any one else have this problem and what to do to correct it?

Mine did it when it was new but I haven't felt it or heard it lately. I wouldn't call mine a grind noise but maybe a chatter or shutter when cornering. I had a "99" with the Dana and now the "03" with the AAM and they both did it.

Mine has always stuttered going around a tight corner. I always felt it is nice to feel some limited slip rather than a nice and smooth no-slip rear gear.

I have been told I can get some "Posi-luibe" to loosen up the diff so it does not grind/shudder , does this sound right? Also how do I display my truck specs on the threads. I filled out the info when I registered but no specs when I reply.

I don't think you use the additive in the AA rearend limited slip setup. You do in the older Dana rearend but they have a clutch system.

You should try a tight low speed turn with a locker.

Sounds like it is doing its job.

Check the reaend fluid level. Some were shipped low from the factory. Have you ever changed the fluid in the rearend?? What fluid did you install??? There was a rumor that DC had changed the fluid type for those of us towing but I haven't been able to confirm this.

no additive in the aam. It is a gear type locker. No lube additive will change how it works unless we are talking about a hand full of sand. That will "loosen" it up alot!!

When I was a tech for a Dodge/GM dealer, I used to have to split the rear diff. and swap the plates around, and switch them with plates from other diffs. laying around the shop until I got the smoothest feel from the diff..Sometimes I would waste a whole day getting the thing smooth enough so the customer was happy, it was a real pain in the butt..Changing lubes barely did squat.

Recommended lubricant

There is only one Dodge recommended lubricant for the 03 and later Rams with the American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) axles, trailer towing or not, and that's 75W-90 synthetic gear lube, Dodge part number 5010232AA. Anything elce and you may "be your own warranty station". Ken Irwin
