Smile Another Trany Question ...

Hi guys

I I just got my new to me Dodge back on the road after a few weeks of preventive maintance ... I was major highway after leaving my shop ... I would say i was not up to operating temp ... I was drive the truck like a old man ...
I was about 55 or 60 mph and I felt and heard the enging rpm for a split second ... may be 50 rpms ... if flet like the torque coverter unlocked ... but it locked right back up ... it was the second time I felt that in the truck .

I have not been diving the truck that much so it's something new to me ... The auto trans was replaced ...I'm not sure who or whats done to it ... The fluid is clean , it has a mag-hy-tec cover ... extra capasity .

I don't know much about the dodge tranys , The TV cable looks like theres a little slack in the cable area ... I don't know if the is a pressure switch for these units or I did see the TPS ... or a band adjustment ...

It's tuff to find a good trany these days ... I am a retried wench ... The trany shifts very positive ... a really firm but not too hard ... so if one of you nice gentelmen could steer me in the right direction that would be great .

Thanks

Greg

Greg you probably felt the converter unlock and then lock. It is a common problem that could be due to the TPS being dirty, brake light switch, or I have even heard of an alternator problem causing it. Some people have gone so far as to pull the wires for the TPS out of the harness. DTT sells a noise filter for the problem. I am sure somebody will chime in with some other ideas too.

I would also say it's your TPS. There is a thread on here on how to "open" up and clean the TPS. I did this twice but finally had to buy a new one.

Smile Re: Trans

Thanks for the advice ... I just finished beating all my oil leaks ... I'm at my shop ...I'm installing my new optima redtops today and going over the wiring ...
My new to me truck has 150,000 ...so I will just order one tomarrow ... I still have my account at my local parts house ... I should be able to get it at a good price ...any one have a part # .

Is the TPS a bolt on item , or do I have to preset the throttle position before installing ...?

Thanks

Greg

my 95 did the same thing. stumped several tranny and mech shops. a call to a dtt trany specialaist said to be sure the tps voltage is set to 1 volt. made the call when my truck was sitting in a shop. the voltage was at .8. if i got it right, sometimes the metal inserts in the tps mounting holes have to be removed and the holes enlarged w/a rat tailed file to be able to get the adjustment. told all this to the mech and he was able to get it to 1.04 volts. tc lockup hasn't given me a problem since. good luck.
