Another steering brake issue

Dead spot in steering when turning
What would cause the power steering to have a dead spot in it when I am turning? It acts like it is catching on something for a second. Brakes seem to be working fine. Would it be the pump or gear box?

Haha......... Found out the problem. Good old role of black tape that I lost the night before. Fell down against the frame and was lodged against the steering shaft........ Would catch the steering shaft at certain times.

My dad had a rattle in his brand new 1961 Mercury Comet that he could never figure out.
I got to looking at it one day and found a hammer that someone form the assembly line must have left under the hood.
It wedged inbetween the engine and firewall and rode there for at least 10k miles.
BTW, the Comet was $800 brand new back in those days.
