From what I've read, and since you are in WV where wintry weather can be an issue, many have recommended SW1 - TM3 - TQ4 . Not towing, EGT's aren't an issue, least amt of smoke for soot loading in the oil. Provides the best winter traction, other than stock.

I'd give that a try and see how it feels/if you like it. That's what I plan on running this winter when it comes to the snow flying.

TM4 actually runs better in winter than summer because of the cold air. If you want to reduce torque to the wheels at startup then change the TQ to 1 or 4.

ah64id......maybe you can help. On another Cummins board there is discussion over the Torque settings of the Smarty JR. The confusion arises over the description of "Torque Management" and each of the levels being TQ1(stock)/TQ2(mild)/TQ3(milder)/TQ(4)mildest. Does the mild-milder-mildest refer to THE AMOUNT OF TORQUE MANAGEMENT or the AMOUNT OF TORQUE THAT IS DEVELOPED OVER STOCK? If its the amount of "torque management" then TQ4 would deliver the highest torque rating. If its the amount of "torque developed over stock" then the highest torque rating would be TQ2.

I would sincerely hope that in the future MADS would refrain from using Yogi Berra to plan the sequence of the settings and write up their explanation.
