Big problem with this study is that many of the filters tested aren't available in a diesel engine application.

Ya I didnt see anything on Donaldson, that is the one I use and Baldwin second if I cant find the Donaldson.

pay particular attention to the fact that the Fram filters are shown first in the picture.. and the fact that there are 7 Fram filters in the test...

I dont use Fram on my personal vehicles, but I do on the race car, and their HP4 is built very well. IMO, you cant compare it to other "street" filters, because its made for 60 to 100 lbs of oil pressure, and to be changed often, but I am very pleased with the construction of this filter. Also very heavy construction. I have used Wix racing filters and Moroso and blew a gasket on each, but never a concern with Fram racing ones, and this is what was recommended to me by our engine builders.

Since everyone speaks highly of Fleetguard, why does everyone seem to notice that Fram is the only one with cardboard. Does this also mean that Fram is making this Fleetguard version for them? It looks just as cheap.

I personally look at the bypass spring strength too. I have used Baldwin filters, and I would again and again, but I always notice a pressure drop on my autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge as the by pass spring weakens. I do not see this with Donaldson or Fleetguards. Its not much, maybe 2-4 lbs, but it means that much oil is being bypassed.

I understand that Fleetguard is an equipment/truck filter company, and prob doesnt have a seperate line for automotive filters, but that thing looks like crap just as bad as the Fram.
