another lp

I was driving to work today when my fp gauge dropped to about 3 lbs. It usually runs about 12-14 lbs. I shut my truck off and flipped the key to cycle the fuel pump. There was no pressure or sound from the fuel pump like there usually is. When I restarted the truck I had normal pressure. My question is do these fuel pumps gradually loose pressure when they go out or do they just stop intermitenly like mine seems to be doing? Could there be some sort of electrical problem? This is not my first fp rodeo but it is the first time with gauges.

I think there is a vast range of ways a LP dies. Some sudden, some prolonged. The fact is that they all DO.

You running a straight mechanical gauge?

My guage is a 0-15lb autometer with an isolator between the filter housing and the gauge. I got them because of, like most, I have had previous problems which includes a new lift pump and injector pump. OUCH. I don't want to do that again. So, just to review, can you guys give me some advice as to the propper way to resolve this issue. Obviously the factory replacement didn't work. Thanks

I just installed my second LP last weekend. NAPA covered it under warranty. It only lasted about 9 mo's / 5k miles. Considering picking up the Vulcan relocate kit.

Where can I find this vulcan relocation kit? Does this put it closer to the tank? Are there better options?

www.vulcanperformance.com

Yes, it puts the pump right back by the tank.
Yes, there are better options, they all cost $. P Pumping is the most reliable, and most expensive option.

I am on my third lp, I haven't proven this theory yet but, when my last pump was dying, my FP gauge began making chattering noise. I thought it was a bad gauge. Changed it, new gauge still chattering. A week goes by pressure starts jumping all over. So I change the pump, under cummins warranty, get a new one , no problems, gauge stops chattering. So here i am now 3months in, gauge starts chattering, still good F/o pressure. I guess it will be about a month then pressure will be all over the place, and I'll change another pump.. It will be free under my waranty for the pump through cummins, but I am sick of this. I guess it is time for Fass? Anybody else have their ISSPRO's chattering with good F/O pressure to them. I have 15psi right now, and the gauge is regulated down, the chattering is about enough to make me go to an electrical gauge and not mechanical.

Thanks P.J. could you tell me more about P. Pumping I want to do this right this time.

Detroit-

When I originally installed my gauges my isolator leaked. I put off replacing it because of the hassel. About a month ago I lost pressure I was hopeing that it was the gauge. Jegs sent me a new on under warrenty. After reinstalling it, my new guage CHATTERED!? I thought that maybe this was how good gauges read, pulsing because of the injectors and pumping. Maybe not? I don't have any others to compare it to.

So after finding out that my LP stopped working my gauge was reading about 3lbs at idle from my injector pump. (just thought I'd add that)

Thanks for the input guys

LPs failing

Could there be a problem with the fuel caps NOT venting? I read all these posts on failed pumps and being a pump tech for a few years I found that starving a pump kills it quicker than anything. I relocated my stock pump to the frame rail under and close to the tank and other than more noise (since it is on the frame now instead of the engine block) it has worked great for 60K miles.
What do you guys think?
