Another Enigma For The Pros...long
Ok..heres the story. I was taking the boat to the shop the other day and while on level ground crusing about 60, it started to surge and almost had a dead pedal feel to it. it coughed and sputtered for a bit, then went back to normal. No CEL. FP@10psi. Fuel filter has 3k miles. Filled up about 100 miles earlier with about 31 gallons of Diesel.
Lately i have noticed at idle the FP would sometimes drop to 3-4 psi in park. Now when its parked, the rpms would surge up and down and sound like it had a miss. i didnt know what was wrong, so while i was at the dealership getting a nick on the dash fixed the service adviser hooked it to the star scan and did a cylinder check. on thurs only 1 cylinder was not at the 100 or higher where it should be. it was about 89. today, did the same check and 2 more cylinder arent up to spec. he told me to put some injector cleaner and drive it hard. so i drove it very hard today. he also thinks the LP is going bad since it drops in idle and when we tried to get a fuel sample with the key on, the fuel just trickled out. i agree with him and he told me to bring it back on monday and they will replace it.
what do youll think about the:
loss of power
fuel pressure readings
underperforming cylinders
one other thing. when installing the quad fp/rp gauge i started the truck and it would barely stay running. it there 7 codes. i rechecked the connectors and then it was fine. when i had the hood up i wiggled all the connectors again and i havent had the weird idle since. is it pretty obvious the quad product is the culprit or was it just luck. could the quad be responsible for the cylinder not being right?
im not bashing quad product btw. i just want the truck running right. quad stuff is great and if it is the problem im sure its installer error
thanks

when installing something it is very common to disturb the electrical connectors. each sensor receives a 5vdc reference voltage from the ecm, the sensor then changes that voltage from between .5-5.0vdc at its output to the ecm. if a connector isnt fully seated, moisture gets in there, some corrosion, etc. it does not take much for that small signal to get distorted and the ecm receiving erroneous info. by rechecking and reseating connectors, you probably cured the issue.
it is always good to run some cleaner through the system. i do it every tankfull. the engine was designed to run with approx 85% load on it. when driven like a grocery getter too often, it will dirty up the injectors.
drive it like a rental. hitch 10k to it, and pull a few passes.
let them change the pump brett, you already have the intank setup, so let them have a ball with it.

since my service guy isnt going to be doing it himself i will let them have all the fun with it they want.
if anyone is in the conroe/the woodlands/willis area they guy im dealing with rocks. he has restored my faith in DC.
do you think jiggling the wires cured all the problems?

anyone else have any ideas? it was surging pretty bad this morning on my way to work. im thinking of taking the quad fp/rp completely off and seeing if that cures the problem. could the banjo bolt be restricting the fuel flow or what am i missing?

pull the Quad stuff first to see what it does....then troubleshoot from there. I know all about troubleshooting!
