Another Beta 4.4 review

Loaded the beta program tonite. Immediately upon starting the truck I noticed that the engine sounded much quieter than normal (I previously had the wild version). As soon as I touched the pedal I realized that it was nowhere near as touchy as it had been before. Smoke was greatly diminished compared to the previous program. I made about 20 wide open runs tonight. Previously I had the smarty wild on SW8 with the TST on 2/2 standard setting with the adjustable timing on 6* auto advance. The new program on this same setting gave me horrible timing rattle. Keep in mind this is on the even SW8 setting that shouldn't have any timing added. I backed all the timing out of the TST, and SW8 seemed about equal to the previous program but with less smoke and what seemed to be cooler EGT's. Next I loaded SW9 and turned the TST completely off. SW9 seemed to run very good, especially on the low end. Around town and probably towing a trailer I'm in love with this program. The turbo spools NOW! Top end it's not quite as strong as the Previous program + TST stacked, but it's almost as strong alone! It almost makes the TST obsolete. I'm curious as to what my mileage will be. If my mileage improves, I'm keeping the Beta program and living with the slightly less power on top. I'm still hoping that I can find the sweet spot with the smarty and the TST together. In summary, the new beta program seems to have nearly similar power to the previous wild program but with 1/2 the smoke, and lower egt's. If the mileage is up this will be the program I keep. I can tell you this-- driving around without the smarty while I was trying to get the new program loaded sucked big time. Thanks for the wonderful product Bob. You've made my truck a pleasure to drive. I'll test some more tomorrow and report back

***UPDATE***
Smarty and TST are playing nice this morning with no timing rattle, not sure why it wouldn't let me do that last night. Smoke is no longer a black cloud, more like a grey haze at WOT. Power is back to where it was before now that I can use the TST again! Spool up is awesome, hardly any smoke around town. Will repost when I get some solid data on EGT's and Mileage. Thanks Bob!

Rather than start "another" Smarty thread... I'll post my observations of beta 4.4 here. First, Bob and Marco-- wonderful job.

I've been playing with 4.3 and 4.4 for a little while now. 4.3 is more like a "play/race" version because of the throttle sensitivity down low. 4.4 is not as sensitive down low, power is linear for the most part, a nice punch occurs about 1900 rpm. On sw 3 it is very drivable and yet still provides great power when you mash the skinny stick. It will smoke on any level if rpms are low and you goose it. That is the trade off IMO. You want that down low power and quick turbo spool? It is the big shot of fuel you get before the turbo spools. When the turbo is up, I get no to very little smoke. The tranny is a lot more responsive to these programs. In other words, when you step on the pedal, even just lightly from a stop, you start to move immediately. On stock setting, there tends to be that delay where the motor revs up and then you slowly start out until the tranny "catches up" (does that make sense?).

The Smarty power is well known here now. It is awesome down low through the mid-range then starts to peter out on the top end. That is where the pressure boxes help out. Towing with this program is outstanding. Have to watch egts on hills though. (FWIW, stock turbo, stock exhaust, stock intake-- we know an improvement in any/all of these will help egts.) Also, aftermarket turbo should really benefit the smarty's potential. I need more air!

For mileage-- I commute 135 miles a day, 1/3 winding mountain raod, 1/3 hilly freeway, 1/3 flat freeway. 4000' elevation to sea level and back again. My last tank was 726 miles, 34.8 gals., 20.86 (hand calc.) mpg, overhead read 21.8. This is with stock tires/rims and unmodified speedo and 65-70 mph on freeway and between 20-40mph on mountain roads. This is running on sw 3. On the whole I am experiencing about 1/2 mpg better than with my Banks alone and about 1.5-2 mpg better than stock.

I have to tell the folks out there this is a great product. I never had this much with the Banks!

Last note: my wife HATES Smarty!! (she doensn't like the "go fast")

Dude....you must not have been around in '03 for infamous Edge Juice release for the '03's.........THAT was frustrating. This aint so bad!

So what are you guys seeing for boost numbers? I'm running 4.4 and I spiked my boost to 45 at only half throttle the other day. I cant really get it to smoke at all (on #3) - not that its a bad thing.
