Amsoil/Donaldson EA AF first impression

My Amsoil Ea came in today (ea106)

First impression is actually very good. Extremely good when comparing it to the garbage NAPA Gold.

The seal fits tighter in the box.

Construction looks good, but the seal extrusion rides a little high on the pleats... other than that, I'm very happy with the construction.

I'll be changing the oil tomorrow and I'll check back to this thread after oil analysis. I'll have before and after UOA in ~3 months...

Glad to hear you like your Amsoil filter. I have been running nothing but Amsoil in my truck from the engine to the rear end and love it. I change my engine oil once a year all while knowing the whole time I'm getting better protection against the extra pressure and heat that I added with the Juice module.

I'm an Amsoil dealer.

I see you changed your Napa oil at a little under 6K. Thats why it came back good. I have argued so many threads where people swore they had to change 3 gallons of oil in their ram every 3K

Back when I ran Exxon XD3 extra I would changer between 8-9K, and still thought I was pulling the plug too soon.

Yep, that's the low silicon I get with Napa Gold also. Can't beat it, low price.

RJF, what ppm silicon do you get with the Amsoil air filter and annual changeout? Also, do you use the Amsoil secondary oil filter system?

I have had no problems running napa gold air filters for the last 40,000 miles.

I wanna say that it was the fleetguard stratapore that saved my ****. I had to clean out dirt from the turbo inlet and of the vanes. Its was obvious that the napa filter was letting unfiltered air get through. The airbox on these trucks has never been a winner, but we'll see how the Amsoil/donaldson does. It was only a few bucks more than the Napa Gold.

Glad that you've had good luck with yours though. I'm not as angry about my situation since the UOA results.

I usually service every 7500 but I panicked when I'd seen the dirt in the intake.

Happy Easter folks... I've gotta get up to beat the crowd at church so its time for the sack.

I haven't tested my oil, I don't feel I need too. Amsoil says 15-25K on their oil so I go the distance. It isn't the most precise way, but I just look at the oil really well, play with it in my fingers, etc. I then make a decision on how worn the oil looks to me. Is this the correct way? No, not really. But when you change the oil on 25 seperate pieces of equipment (I'm a farmer) annually you kind of learn what looks good coming out and what looks nasty and was left in too long. I run a Donoldson Endurance oil fitler only. The Endurance line is designed too last with the synthetic oils due to not using cellulous media material. The Endurance fitlers use a synthetic nanofiber material that resists breaking down longer and has more storage capacity. I am happy with this setup, but have thought about running the dual bypass system and cold start oil primer. Combined with these two items and I would virtually eliminate engine wear. But....on the other hand....why do I want to try and make my Cummins last over 1 million miles? The truck itself will be in shambles long before the motor is shot.

I am running a Mopar air filter and the stock box right now, the reason I am not running the Amsoil filter is because I want to get away from this stock air box with an AFE Force system.

Best filter for the money?

I am thinking about the Amsoil air filter. Which one do I use and how much do they cost? Is it really better than the BHAF or Stock for that matter? Normal use for me is highway driving and sometimes pulling a 5th wheel. No real racing or pulling contests for me. I want to put a good filter in, but cannot afford the $200+ for the kit I would really like (unfortunately, when you have kids, you have less money for your toys.) Please give me your input as to the best filter for the money.

Thanks,
Rick

Hey Rick
I've only had the ea for a few weeks now but its working fine thus far. Its a few bucks more than the napa depending on where you get it. If you have to order it from amsoil then expect to pay shipping. Your cost could get up to $50. Without shipping the filter will run you $46 or so.

Application chart is downloadable: http://www.amsoil.com/products/oil_a...006Catalog.pdf

I have not noticed any increase in power or fuel economy yet, although I don't really expect to. I think the best advice I have is make sure that the filter is sealing - no matter what filter you choose. Some folks put grease on the air filter seal. A good indicator is how much effort it takes to close/latch the air box lid.
