Am I Killing My Motor???????????????
I bought a #5 fuel plate off ebay and just stuck it in,shoved it all the way forward,a few clicks on the starwheel and slid the afc housing all the way up too. I installed a boost fitting which has a small hole VS the wide open fitting that was on there stock.
My truck is a 1997 with a 5 speed and 333,000 miles. I was not comfortable passing with this truck before it was slow.
After this install,it goes so fast so hard, the tires spin in 2nd and 3rd and pulls VERY VERY hard in 4th and 5th all the way up. This truck is incredible. I know i at the very least doubled the HP on this motor.
Am I killing this thing?
I don't want to hurt the motor. I didn't use the guide plate that came with the fuel plate. I didn't know what to do with it. Like I said,I just installed the fuel plate and slid it all the way up.
I will be getting an EGT gauge soon.
This isn't the first truck I had with a #5. The last truck I had was set up by a diesel expert who used some kind of guide plate, but he still slid it forward. So why bother with the guide plate? I am just worried that this truck runs so good and pulls so hard, that I might be hurting it.
I am looking for input from you guys!

I know little about the P-pump trucks, but do you have gauges?? gauges will tell you if your hurting your truck
Boost (what turbo do you have ?? and what are you seeing for boost )
EGT (more than 1400F for extended periods is harmfull )

I am not doing anything more than just getting on it around town.
Nailing it and running out 2nd,and 3rd and part of 4th gears.
Then I back off.

Your engine is fine. If you still have stock gov. springs, you might be around 350hp, possibly less due to the short power band. Unless you are towing and the it stupid hot, your engine will still outlast your truck by a considerable margine.

Either way, I am really pleased with the way the #5 plate woke this motor up!
I have had trucks modified before and none of them responded like this one did. And to think there is so much more on tap should I need more.
I have heard that these motors are de-tuned from a 500 HP capability.
And I belive it!

Your Probably not hurting your motor depending on how long you stay in it. I had a 96 with a #10 plate 370 injectors and that truck would get hot. I could peg my 1600* gage in a second flat, even with a turbine up grade.
I for sure would not pull anything till you get a set of gages. I know that nothing under a #10 plate is recommended for a 215 motor so the hp is a guess unless someone else has dynoed one.
The only thing I would say your realy gonna kill Is your clutch.
Oh and if you realy want to make it fly put a gsk in.

If your stock clutch is not slipping in 4th and 5th, you're making less than 380-400 HP.
Motor will be just fine as long as you don't hook up to a 20K trailer and drive over a high mountain pass the pedal to the floor mat the whole climb.
Unloaded and under 90 MPH, it's pretty hard to hurt one of these motors.
