Had my truck in for repair at a shop and they said my injectors are starting to go - they reved up the engine and it takes too long to rev back down. The shop said the injectors will still last a long time, but to keep an eye on fuel economy.

The shop owner said depending on the injectors I choose, they will cost between $350 - $700 CAD each. So what is the difference between a $350 injector and a $700 one?

Which brands should I consider and which should I stay away from?

If I choose larger ones to produce more HP, obviously they flow more fuel. But is this an all-the-time thing or is it just when under load. What I am wondering is, can I keep my fuel economy with bigger injectors if I drive like a little old lady?

I do plan on getting twins and an upgraded CP3 pump this summer...

If they free reved the motor and it took a while to return to idle thne that sounds like built up rail pressure which is normal for trucks that have a box that modifies rp. I get good fuel mileage with big sticks highway unloaded= mid teens

Honestly, if your going to have the injectors replaced or repaired I'd talk to Don with F1 and have him upgrade your injectors and if you truly need some repaired he's the guy to do it. I think the cost for him upgrading and repairing will be significantly less then this company wants to charge you per injector.

After that, I'd ask these guys here. We have so much experience right on this forum, you could get a doctorate if you read it all.

Like Rogers said, that F1 has received rave reviews. Send him your sticks and he can make them better than new. I'd give him a call and see what he says.

Its normal for a Cummins CR engine not to return to idle for 2or 3 seconds. It has 20,000 p.s.i. plus rail pressure and it takes a few seconds for that pressure to bleed off. With all do respect I think the shop wants to get into your check book. Check and make sure you are not making engine oil where diesel fuel is leaking from a cracked injector. Again it is perfectly normal for these engines to return to idle slowly 2 to 3 seconds after be revved to 2000RPMs. Do you have a smoking problem at start up? Is the truck hard to start?
Do you have a ruff idle? If the anwser is no I bet your truc is normal and the shop is looking for a profitable job. There are lots of injectors on the market and if you do buy be careful of some cheap junk thats being knocked off overseas.

I was wondering about them wanting my money, but they didn't try to sell me anything - they just said to keep an eye on things - the things you mention, none of which I have.

I wouldn't cheap out on injectors by any means, but since I've never purchased them before, that's why I posted: to find out what brands are qualitly.

Spend your money on extra fuel filtration. I have a Baldwin BF1212 water sept and a BF 7633 fuel filter under the truck plus the stock location with a Baldwin PF 7977 fuel filter. Before this set up I changed the fuel filter at every oil change (5000miles). The pressures these common rails are running will mess up injectors quickly if you are unlucky enough to get some bad fuel.

Ask Don about the Bosh SS injectors like the 6.7's have, they are the way to go. Word is Bosh wont even sell the the type that came factory in our p/u's anymore due to problems. I just had them installed by Floor It Diesel and i love them. We put down 624 hp with em. They cost $310 a hole, thats way better then what dodge or cummins wants for the junk factory ones. If you are within warrenty be ware, Ive been told dodge's warrenty replacement injectors are REMANs and don't last trust me.

i hate to say it, but unless you've upgraded the filters that came w/ your airdog, your filtration isn't as good as the factory for f/w separation. AHI64 i believe is his name on here...that man knows his stuff in regards to filtration.
