Am i crazy or just stupid?

Ihave been thinking about building a rat rod using a 62 dodge p\u frame and just doing the same old thing of a chevy small block but i can't be a trator, the truck still has the inline six in it and i was thinking maby a cummins 12v should be in there. i might be way over my head but who supports me in puting a cummins in a chopped rat rod truck or should i just go with a small block gasser? i might be crazy enough to try to put a cummins in a 50+ year old vehicle.

You're not crazy at all - that 12V will go right in there, and it would inspire many other people to look into similar projects! This IS an engine swap that I would support - I say go for it!!

Why do the same old thing...when there is something much better..?

i have actually seen something similar, it was a cummins with a TT kid on an old dodge, wasnt a rat rod more of like a slammed semi tubbed flat bed, looked sweet sounded edited by admin too since the engine was in the open. id say go for it, not everday you see something like that!

I'm with those guys. Everything you see at car shows....well maybe not everything, but A LOT of old ford coupes and stuff, 350 chevy. Why? Cheaper to build and get more power. I hate seeing those old 3 window coupes with a Cheby engine in them. I'd go with the Cummins, it would be unique and then you could run veg in it and say it was also high power and environmentally friendly to boot!! Then blow the doors off some of those cheby motors!!!

The green one in the Sweptline registry header has a cummins in it.

No room for an aftercooler and since it is a 1/2 ton I personally believe it is too light for that heavy of an engine without some type of serious frame and suspension modifications. I would want a 1 ton myself. Just MHO.

You could always look at swapping a 4BT. Smaller and a nicer fit into some of those small front ends on older vehicles.

Just a thought.

If you set the exhaust up just right, it will paint itself, saving a few bucks on flat black primer.

I have to say go for it. Hot rods, Rat rods, Customs and everything is an extension of the owners taste, and you just happen to like the taste of #2!

I was thinking about looking for a 48 ford rag top to mount my 12v into... Just swap over the 47rh with it and get a 9" rear end with a locker... you're losing abour 2000 lbs of vehicle weight with this kind of swap, so even a stock motor would mak it scoot... I just can't find a donor car...
