Am I being scammed by a DTR member?

I'am in PM with a DTR member on buying a product from him. I'am not real sure about payment so I need some advice from you guys. We decided on paypal. Here's the catch. I copied and pasted his reply:

Quote: Give me your pay pal account name and I will request the money. Unquote.

I'am not up on how to do this kind of stuff but there's no way in he double tooth pick I'am going to give someone my account information.

What do you guys think?

If you don't feel comfy with doing it that way ,then you can send him a check and wait til it clears before he sends your stuff to you. That is what I did and it worked great for us.
Hope this helps out.Cin

He has to have your account email/name to send you a bill through paypal. Do you expect him to guess?

You can also just ask for his paypal email so you can just send payment without having it billed to you.

How would I know what he's going to request?
The user name he gave me is just his e-mail address.

The bill will tell you how much money he is asking for.

Your email is your paypal account name.

Exactly, no scam here, just give him your email address and he'll send you a "request for payment" through Paypal, all it does is cut down on the info you have to enter in the payment form. He's doing it for you.

He is just requesting the account name you use for Paypal so he can send you a request for the payment.

No account information is exchanged other than your user name.

This is the standard way to request funds from a Paypal account if selling an item between individuals.

You can also send funds using his paypal account name as well if you know your way around the Paypal system.

He also told me his name is the same on ebay. How do you do a search by user name on ebay? I tried his name in the general search but came up with nothing.

Remember we are doing this transaction in private through diesel truck resource, not ebay.

I'am new to this paypal stuff and don't want the hassle of undoing something that could have been avoided in the first place. Asking for help not only helps me but maybe others that read this also.

on ebay, go to advanced search, and then to the left choose search by member id or whatever it says.

Bluebull, If you don't feel right doing it that way fine and dandy. Do it a different way.Like I stated in post #3. That is one way you won't have to worry about and also it is ran through the bank. You make a copy of your check and all he has to do is call your bank when he recieves the check to make sure the funds are available and there you go.Easy as that..02 Cin
