Aluminized Systems vs. 304 Stainless
What's your opinion on aluminized exhaust systems vs. 304 stainless. Obviously stainless will not rust and probably never need replaced. Has anyone one been running an aluminized system for 3-5 years and if so what is the condition of it now?
I am thinking about buying one of Shopdiesel's 5in exhaust systems for $349

I disagree. It doesn't matter where you live. I had a 4in on my old 94 for 6 years and then I sold the truck and everything still looked good. My old truck was Dually and and a plow truck. So I couldn't drag it through a carwash to get the under carriaged sprayed and it saw a lot of salt. So do not waste your money on Stainless. Yes in the extreme long run they will last longer. But you should easily get 8 years of an aluminized system. But do you plan on keeping your truck 10 years plus. Also are you buying a cat back or a turbo back system. If you are going turbo the 5in system will rob power from you on the low end unless you are pushing over 500hp

Depends alot where you live. I live in maryland so we get all the seasons. I have had a aluminized system on my 90 mustang for 14 years and it still looks like new. Never drove in snow, but plenty of rain. I went with an aluminized system on my new truck too as I think the kind of money they want for a stainless system is just to much. just my .02 though.

Well, I do plan I keeping my truck for over 10 years. I have read about people losing low end power with the 5in exhaust and I have also read that some people don't notice a change at all in the low end. Well, maybe to be on the safe side I should just stay with 4in. I don't think I will waste my money on stainless either.....

If you do get stainless get the 304 instead of the 409. I have had the 409 system for about three years and it started rusting in about three months. It probably won't rust through but it looks bad. Who knows what is going on inside. The aluminized system is probably better than the 409 system as long as you don't need to weld it.
When I complained about it, I was told to go under and polish it, no warrantee.

do the 5"... you'll never wonder what the 4" would have performed like... I think Rip dynoed a 12hp/12tq loss going from 5" to 4" at ~450rwhp... the 4" may perform a little better at lower RPM, but the 5" is still gonna perform great!
but I promise you, if you get the 4", you WILL eventually want to go 5"... it may be a couple years later, it may be a couple DAYS later!
