Ok guys, grab a bottle of your favorite brew and listen to me for a minute. I'm now in the testing phase of my new fuel system setup for the 24 valves. It involves a holley black pump with a prefilter, a highly available (been around for years) John Deere filter, and completely bypassing the stock filter and lift pump. The best place I have found to mount it is inside the drivers side outer bedside. This gives good access to the tank top fittings, protects the pump (for you hardcore offroaders) and keeps it lower than the stock LP. I've got it set up on the bench at the moment, and things look promising. Flow looks good, but I don't have any solid numbers yet (no one to help me time it). Including all the fuel line and fittings to go straight to the VP, I am thinking I can sell kits for $325 + shipping.
What do you guys think? I will get a few pics tomorrow of it on the bench, then hopefully installed pics as well in the next couple days.

Honestly, I don't want to burst your bubble, It sounds ok, but for $350.00, I would rather buy the FASS II with a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty, that is rebuildable, and is proven. I may be mistaken but I think some of the guys have reported the holleys leaking because they don't like Diesel. Just my $.02

i was reading some where that the holley wasn't enough to feed the vp by it self that why most people run it to their lift pump. I'm not real sure about this but i like the idea of a john deere filter.

I have had my Holley Red Pump on for 9 months now,, Total cost in install $130.00 Includes pump and All lines and fittings,,Works great. I just recently disabled the factory lift pump by taking the veins out of the pump now it is just an empty shell having fuel pumped through it by the Holley pump,,12 lbs of pressure at idle,9Lbs at WOT. With Both pumps hooked up before I was pushing 24Lbs at Idle and 19Lbs at WOT. I thought that was to much pressure so I disabled the factory lift pump,,Seems to work great.

I have a Vulcan big line kit with the stock Carter, My problems have been solved. 13.5psi at idle and 11psi wot.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I really appreciate the feedback.
I've been running a holley blue on my truck since about january, and I haven't had a lick of trouble out of it, and the great thing is it does have a warranty from autozone. The holleys are rebuildable as well. The only real problem I'm having at the moment is the filter could be kind of messy to change. I had also thought about offering a dual filter kit, but the clamps that hold the filter on in a dual setup are $32 apiece, where the clamps for the single I am using are like $4-5 apiece and the base costs more, which means a substantial increase in the build price. I have to go to Grainger and get a check valve, and I should have everything completed. After that I'm going to mount it all on the truck and dynamically test it (hopefully tonight).

Which Deere filter base are you using?? the old clip on style?? Just watch the micron ratings for the filters... Yes, you might need a check valve in the fitler housing.. or it could drain back from the pump and out on the ground.. Deere mounts them higher on the tractors.. if they drain back.. it just goes to the tank.. but usually they use a mechanical style pump.. and won't drain back too easily..
Personally, I like the old glass clip on style, because you could see inside the filter.. and could see when you had water in the filter.. and trash.. but the newer setup use a smaller micron rating.. most are 10 and 2... (some of the VP pump tractors used 10 and 2 or 10 and 5 on the filters..)

I'm using the AR86745 filter. That filter base has small tubes that stick into the filter, allowing you to run higher pressure through the filter without leaking. Got to talking about it with dad the other day and he said he knew for a fact you couldn't push any pressure through the old glass ones or they'd leak. The mechanical lift pumps on the tractors actually pull through the filter, so I was kinda worried about leaking with pressure on it, but everything seems to be holding steady. Got a check valve from grainger today, so that problem is solved. All I really need to do now is get everything onto the truck and test it that way. Hopefully I will find time this weekend to do that.

Better check out that routing through the filters again... the final filters are always after the transfer pump... The old glass filters were used on the 4020's.. up to some of the 40-50 series tractors... (usually used a little metal strainer before the transfer pump.) They used the housing you are using all the way up to the newer 10 series...
I've see those filter shoot off the side of a tractor because too of charge pressure... (usually because someone pinched off a line.. or shutoff plunger stuck.. (8000's) I'll have to look.. but I was thinking the charge pressure was in the 35psi range, on the P-pumps...

I sent you a PM... but you should be OK with the micron rating... I'd like something a little smaller.. but I believe is the same as stock.. and the same that JD uses when using the VP44... 5 microns...
The spec for the pressure on the 7710 tractors is 29psi min supply pump pressure.. at idle... it goes up with RPM's.. So you should be no problem on the pressures either.. for the VP..

Both AR50041 and AR86745 have a primary and secondary paper element. Other filters (when two are used) are connected in series to provide a primary and secondary filter.
RE27091 has a micro glass media material for all in-line injection pump applications.

Ok, well I got it all installed today, everything seems to be working as planned. I'm getting 16 at idle, 13 cruising at 70, no less than 10 WOT for extended periods (read: till 3 grand). I'm gonna put some miles on it now, and see how everything holds up. I will keep everybody updated.
