Allison behind a 5.9

I know a lot of big Cummins have an Allison behind em', I was wonderin if anyone had seen an Allison behind on of our little 5.9s. Every Allison dealer Ive talked to said they cant sell their trannies to anyone but a dealer. Im pretty sure with some work the Allison could be mounted behind a 5.9 but I was wonderin if anyone has actually seen it done.
Also, what kind of tranny mods would have to be done to an Allison to make it hold +500 ponies? Sure would make for a Quick truck 8).

The '96 Ford medium duty at work has a 5.9/Aliison driveline. I hate it. Torque converter stalls way too high, so the truck is boggy even empty.

Re:Allison behind a 5.9

He does have an Allison, but it's the Allison 1000 in the DMAX.

Re:Allison behind a 5.9

How might one go about getting ahold of this Clint?
He does have an Allison, but it's the Allison 1000 in the DMAX.
So he does have an Allison behind his Cummins?
BTW: Ive heard of a guy in the DFW area that has a 5.9 in an S-10 with a Yenco tranny under it . He runs at all the local drag strips and apparently does real good.
Thanks guys,
Scott

So he does have an Allison behind his Cummins?

Yes he does, but the Allison 1000's are no better than our 47REs. You still have to modify them (ex. ATS)

Re:Allison behind a 5.9

Using a mid sized truck rear engine housing, starter and proper flywheel, you can bolt any transmission you want in it. Starter will be on the other side. I don't know about speed potential, but the torque can be taken care of just by using a transmission built for that torque. Guess a 4060 would be overkill. On the manual side the 600 series Roadrangers are built for 600 ft pounds of torque. Generally all commercial trucks as well as equipment use standard A, B, or C bell housings.

Re:Allison behind a 5.9

I was hopin' to put in an Allison in my truck for the simple fact of having an auto, and a nice one at that. Dont get me wrong I love shiftin the gears especially when pullin' but I have pulled with an Allison before and they pull basically as good as any 5 or 6 spd, not to mention how much quicker they are when youre out foolin around :.
Of course it all comes back to the cash issue >.Or Maybe Ill just have to get better at speed shiftin', that is until someone comes out with sport shifter for the 5 spd's. 8)
