Aircraft Mechanic Needs Help!!

Hello All,
Need some help, or a lot of help, I think my injection pump is gone. Starting my 1997 cummins is intermittent, all fuel lines are good, changed the lift pump, no help. There is fuel getting to the injection pump, and no fuel coming out at times. When the truck starts, it runs like a champ. Scared to think its the injection pump, but that's my next fix, unless you guys have a better idea.

Best regards,
Rich

When you say intermitten how often? Like yesterday and not today or 5min ago and not now. You mean there is no fuel coming out of the inj. lines right.
As you probably know these pumps hardly ever go out. Good luck.

This leads me to believe it is in fact not your pump that is giving you your trouble. Have you checked you shut down solenoid? Where are you located?

You might have air leaking in someplace. First thing Id do is search for info on adding a fuel pressure gauge. Then you can see some of whats going on.
Youd need a needle valve with 1/8NPT threads, some plastic tubing and a pressure gauge for mounting inside the cab. You can drill and tap the banjo bolt on the injector pump inlet for and put the needle valve in there. Use it to damp the pulses from the lift pump. you should see around 25psi at idle and 30-35 at 2000rpm no load I think.
That solenoid check is a good idea. check to make sure it moves smoothly, and check the adjustment.
