Airbag location?? idea for true air ride...
Was gonna pull out the leaf springs, get a rectangular thick tubing...put a bushing in one end of it and bolt to the front leaf spring bracket. Then it'll set on the block on the axle, have a plate coming down in front of the axle block and behind so the axle won't move forward or back, still using the U bolts. Trying to figure out if the bags should be right over the axle, or behind the axle?? If behind, how far?....if that's the case ill extent the rectangular tubing past the axle for the bag, and reinforce the bottom so there's no stress. And what type of bags? Just the air lift 5k#?...or something dif and larger? Thanks for all input on this!...also any pics would be great as well! I have bags on the truck now, not sure if I can use them for this or not, they're air lifts for a 2wd, its just a big single bag on each side, not a double lobe...or whatever its called.

don't use 5k bags. you can get Peterbilt bags for $140 each online. i would also look at pictures of a Peterbilt air leaf and that can help you design yours.

I had thought about that but there's so many different types of those bags, as well as sizes. I don't know what would be best. Rolling lobe?, a single bag that just compresses, or a double that compresses??

this is a trailer set up but similar to what you want to do.
http://www.stengelbros.com/Trailer%2...Suspension.htm
i would use a Pete low leaf bag
OR
You could just buy one for your truck already

Yeah that's about what I'm looking at building. I have a friend that's a metal fabricator and can build that for a tenth of what that costs. I just have to get the bags.
Soo that's what its called?..a low leaf bag? I can go in to a local truck store and they'll know. What pressures do those bags run??

well you will be able to run a lot lower pressures than a big rig and using a Pete bag is the way to go just in case you have to replace it they are EVERYWHERE. i had a 98 Pete 379 Extended hood that had Pete Low Leaf air suspension. bag is not too tall and would be perfect

Yes that's true, when empty I want the rear of the truck an inch lower than stock. The measurements it gives is for full expansion right? Not compressed measurements. But I have to find out when the bag has little pressure in it, just riding not loaded what the bag measurement would be for that. Thatll be hard to find.

take this bag for instance http://www.truckspring.com/firestone...-358-9201.html
it is 25.10" expanded and 7.8" deflated.

that is something you will have to measure your truck with the ride height you are looking for, then find a bag that is in that area of measurements after you get it built, you will have to play with air pressures and what feels comfortable

Can I ask a question?...why not use the 5k# bags or something kinda similar?? Right now how mine are setup, they're taking all the weight, the leaf springs are doing hardly anything other than keeping the axle in place. I found some other bags that aren't so big that are rated for 6k#. Was just curious.
