? on air intake horns
Any proof out there that the cfm+, ats, afe and such are better in performance than lazarsmith or the similar ones on ebay? Just tryin to justify the price difference.

Well as a recent owner of one, I can't imagine there is that much difference unless someone totally screwed up the flow somehow. I am not sure they are worth the money at all and that goes for any of them. I did get the bug and decide to try one so I went kind of the middle of the road and bought the GDP model. I did notice a little improvement in a few areas, but was it worth the money? probably not, but that's what we do when it comes to performance. I can't imagine that the ones that cost much more than the GDP one are that much better if any at all. I think they all make a pretty good product and like everything else in the performance world, some feel theres are better and they cost more. The decision lies on the buyer the way I see it. It has been said many times that folks on this board are making big power with stock horns.
Would I buy the one I have again? probably just because it did make a slight improvement and it looks nice and has the tapped ports if I ever need them.
theres my .02

The GDP is the one I'm looking at gettin. leftcoastdiesels did a dyno and the gdp is barely behind the cfm, not much diff for another 100 bones.
I was curious as to the #'s on the 3" pipe ones, since I have the tools to make it myself. If they are comparable, I can build my own for a fraction of the cost. But, if the pipe ones are not equal, then it's probably GDP for me

I can do a whole lot, but fabbing is not my strong point, but if it was, I would have built one. I have seen some awesome ones built by folks and I bet they perform just as well. I say do it if you have the time and skills. You will save some coin for sure.

I did see independent dyno results on a previous post on this subject and the cfm did make a little more hp than the other three tested against it. As for "feeling" a big difference, I can only tell a little right around 2000 rpm range.

I would think the DTT, Lazarsmith and some of the other home made ebay versions would be very similar to the GDP in performance. All are about the same diameter and have very smooth radius curves.
Made a nice difference for me, especially in the normal driving rpm range. Noticeable is the drop in boost at cruising speed. I dropped 2 psi. Down to 2 psi of boost at 55 mph and 6 psi at 70 mph.

I got the GDP, am very satisfied with it. Buttmeter says a little gain on the lower end power, EGT's a little lower, slight increase in fuel mileage. It looks good too. I'd buy another.

They help bottom end/response the most. The bigger the inside radius, the better. The big outside radius is insignificant. Look at the back of an AC ductilator (thats' my line of work) and you can see the effectectiveness of all kinds of fitting designs. I built mine (in my avatar) that way but with 3.5" pipe. So the ones on ebay have something the really expensive ones don't... the huge inside radius. I think the 3" on ebay might just be as good as the larger ones with a tighter inside radius. Craig

Have had my CFM+ for well over a year now and it has been worth it, especially after the turbo upgrade, low end response is a bit better and it has held up very well.

I have the CFM+. I am not sure if it makes any difference or not. I love the claims of better low end or high end. If you look at the curve from the test results it only changes the air velocities in the midrange, so those who feel a better high end or low end just want to believe.
Here were my best mods
1. Home made air intake $10 noticable difference in performance big difference in filter minder reaction.
2. Quad Race Box big diff.
3. Rokktech $ 80 or so, can not tell a difference.
4. CFM+ $300, can not tell a difference.
A heavily modified truck could react differently.
