what air filter should i use on my 99 dodge with ctd? I would like to stick with stock box. What kinda increases would i see with something like K&n filter? I heard they don' t filter real well. Right now i have a stock filter with a foam precleaner in it.

What do you use your truck for? The most? I use mine for pulling my Rv and a car hauler,I know you stated that you wanted to stay with your stock,I did too at first,until I read allot here and the other web sites,and found out that the non-stock add on filters would really help my Exhuast temps greatly,so the first mod I did was put on APE mega cannon,I noticed a small bit of {peppyness} not much,but an amount to notice on the response of the throttle, next I took off the catylitic converter and muffler,that really helped.On one of my trucks previously,a Ford diesel,I tried the drop in aftermarket filters in the stock box,it did not do as much for the temps as when I took it out and put on a open air filter and got rid of the stock box.So there is my two cents,goodluck and weigh out all of them and make your own decision, Rick

I run K&N drop in have run them on corvette, suburban and several Harleys with great sucess. You will get a definite increase in air. you can hear the diff. if your silencer ring is mia
You wil hear many opinions here and the great part about DTR is that you can get many suggestions and use what you think is best as I am sure you have already found out. I am personally not concerned with the K&N filter not filtering and the conversion is not too expensive.

This post just reminded me of a question I had. On the Scotty II's or III's I heard its best if you cut a hole somewhere to let more air in. Can someone tell me where this hole is and possibly post a pic? Thanks

I couldn't find any pics of the hole you are recomended to cut. Still not sure where it goes.

In the passenger side cowl corner, it's a 4" hole to let more air into the Scotty II.

Can mud and snow and stuff get in there? I guess I'm still not understanding. Doesnt the stock hole go out the right side of the fender and above the wheel well or am i completely off?

On the 2nd gen trucks it is a 4.5" hole in the cowl.

You can find this on the wildcat site...go to dodge performance...then scotty air and view the printable installation instructions...there are pictures there.

For the 3rd gen trucks there is no hole required on the RAM AIR 3...or Scotty III as some refer to it as.

I bought the AFE Mega Cannon thingamabob. It was a toss up betwixt the Scotty II and the AFE. I took a leap and went with the AFE because I was a wussie and didn't want to cut a gaping hole in the cowl.

I like the AFE. Sounds like a 727 turbojet engine winding up in the cab. I like the sound, so does my wife, but if you're likened to hate loud noises (which is unlikely) this is not for you.

I'm sure the Scotty II would do just as well or even better, you can't go wrong with either.

For my 04, I'm looking at the Scotty III.

I'm using the K&N drop-in now. I'm not too impressed with the "seal" of the gasket. I'm going to go with a Scotty ASAIGTM (As Soon As I Get The Money)

I pretty much leave her alone. Okay, I lied. I've only towed the boat once since we've purchased her truck and of course, I had to try her's out! It did great.

We take several trips from Mesa to Lake Powell and Lake Havasu each summer and the squabbling has already begun! You're right, it will prove to be an interesting towing season! Of course, I can always pull the punch of "you back the truck up, over the curb, through the front yard, between the RV gates, hook up to the boat, pull that big pig back between the gates without scratching it (I'd freak), over the front yard, down the ramps, and then round the front without a scream for help, we'll take your truck!"

Think that'd work?
