General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Ah crap

So going to a friends house for a bbq last night I experienced the dreaded death wobble. Luckily i was only going 45 miles an hour so when it started I pulled over real quick, what a trip! It felt like there were 10 guys on each side of my truck pushing side to side, but I could still turn. It didnt stop until I came to a complete stop, after a few words I had to laugh. I knew it was coming with the napa track bar on there. Well its kept it at bay for the last couple months Ive had the truck, Im gonna try lukes link before anything. Wish me luck!

I fought DW for a solid 6 months on my truck, couldn't go above 80km/h (50mp/h) without the truck trying to shake itself apart. Don't you just love having to put money into your truck fixing a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place? Swing-and-a-miss Dodge engineers

It's not just Dodge engineers- I rode in an old, 60's era Land Rover that did it, too. Plenty of coil sprung Jeeps do it, too. Most any solid axle, coil sprung vehicle has the potential to do it. Design may control some of it, but when parts wear out, which they can't be designed not to do, you will get DW.

Leaf sprung vehicles will do it too when parts get worn on them. Some of our old 4x4's did it and I had DW on a 4 axle Pete on the tag axle! Was not fun but at least it happened at only about 25 MPH. It has been around for many, many years but we called it shimmy not DW. I think DW is probably a worse than normal shimmy.

My 89 Wrangler with leafs does it at speeds over 60 but under 70. I think I have a warped rim though. The worst I ever had it was while pulling the 5er down a country back road slowing down from 55. My eniter front end felt like it was moving 3 feet in both directions. Went over the entire front suspension and found that both front calipers were froze up.

It doesnt happen to everyone for some reason, Alot of the time the addition of a front leveling kit induces it.
