Aftermarket turbos louder?

All of you with aftermarket turbos, is the turbo noise louder than with the HX35? Right now i'm looking at the HTT HTB2 turbo to replace my HX35, how much more noise can I expect from it? just curious, thanks.

If I'm driving at a steady speed I don't notice much difference, but when you get on it, it will sing

Thanks TMC243, How much power are you making? How hot do your EGT's get? I still need to talk to HTT, but I am wondering if the HTB2 will keep it cool enough with a COMP at 5x5 and DD3's? The HTB2 is a reworked Holset right?

htb2 is a reworked shwitzer just like the b-1s and bds super b . they all start life as the same frame. o yeah and jr adkins makes one to that starts out on the same frame. i have a friend that is running a killer b from htt with a drag comp and 120 injecters and loves it he did say it does have a little bit of lag at first but when it lites it is really fun hes running this turbo cause he blew up his jr turbo on a 5x5 run from a stop light .

Keep in mind my truck has the correct # of valves, so how it will affect your temps I really don’t know, but my experience was: I installed the turbo and the 370 injectors at the same time. My temps prior to that, (once I took the 191dv’s out) with a #4 plate forward I could hit 1500* (max on my gauge) pretty quick, maybe 8-10 seconds. I installed the #10 plate about in the middle and would hit 1200-1250*, so of course I move it forward for more power, temps maxed at about 1400*. At this point my truck would run about 16.3 in a ¼ mile at about 86mph. Just to give you and idea with the #4 plate in and the d/DV’s the best I ever ran was a 16.0 at 89mph with the pyro pegged after maybe 1/8 mile. I have been using a G-Meter to get these figures and it showed the max HP at 325 with the DV’s and #4 plate. With the #10 plate and reasonable temps it showed 285-290HP, was only about .3 seconds slower and 3mph. After I installed the turbo and 370’s initial reaction to temps was a little disappointment. At a steady hwy speed didn’t notice much difference with the temps, but boost was down a little. BUT after driving a while I figured it out. With no other changes at WOT pyro would go the about 1200* then climb much slower but still get to 1400. My ¼ mile times went to 15.5 and 89mph and showed 349HP. So I cut a #100 plate and my ¼ mile time went to 15.2 and 90mph showing 360HP. Tried the #4 plate again and got to 15.0 at 92mph 375HP Pyro now getting to about 1300* before it slows down. So I combined the 100 plate and the #4 plate, trying to get a little more top end fueling with a little smoother bottom end. I’m now running 14.9 at 93.7mph 383HP the pyro slows at 1200* and peeks at 1450* at the end of a ¼ mile. Bottom line more fuel makes the turbo spin sooner and faster and seems to be able to cool about the same. I’m thinking about re-installing the 191dv’s to really test it.
At a steady 100mph with the stock turbo I was running 1000-1100*, with this turbo I’m at 800-850*. As far as spool up is concerned this is at least as fast if not faster than the stock turbo.

I went with a custom built turbo from J.R Its liek a hx40 but with a bigger shaft. it worked great until I changed to a 215 pump and blew it up. It held 50PSI for about 3 months with out anything happening to it but once I hit 55PSI with the new pump she said good bye. I'm back to a stock turbo but saveing u for J.R's little 55. I did notice with the bgger turbo that my truck was a little louder. It had a lot more throaty sounds when at WOT and really cleaned up the smoke to a light haze instead of a pouring black cloud. The turbo had a HX-40 down pipe

What does this mean? You guys with the lesser valved trucks...I don't know . It's either we have overvalved trucks or you have the correct number of valves.

Their both Cummins, right?

I've found the B1 and 2 to be much louder than any size HX and prone to barking when letting up on the pedal even very gradually.
Nice performing turbos but I've personally found the noise to be objectionable.
Some people like the noise though...

I've ridden in/driven a TDR members truck that has a HTT HTB2 w/ 'gated 12cm2. It is louder than my PDR HX-40 and the sound is a little bit higher pitched. The HTB2 spools quicker, too.
