Aftermarket performance items and theft....
What a pain in the rear it is getting all the reciepts together for a claim.... do any of you know what the return is for these items like edge, toneau, steps, lift, rims, tires??????
My 05 got stolen last week on wednesday from my daughters work place at academy in Selma, TX. I am sure it is long gone to mexico....... no word on recovery yet...... I am gearing up to just get some sort of reimbursement for it if any. Im gonna buy her a little car to go to and from work and trick out my '09..... Any clues from people that have had their modified trucks stolen would be great.....

Ahhh man, that sucks! Before I do much more to mine, I'm installing lojack, and a really nice alarm system for sure. I've had mine broken into, not stolen. Get ready cause there's gonna be a lot more of it as the years get harder for many and tough times ahead maybe, they'll do anything and everything to get cash, or convert to cash. It's sad and not right, but it's the times we're livin in now. Not gonna get better.

my insurance agent told me that with everything I had on my truck, i would have to get a special policy. After starting a construction company back home I was curious to how much commercial insurance was going to cost me (gritting teeth waiting on a quote) and my commercial insurance agent called me the next day. $1 Million in coverage, actual or stated replacement value for the truck and ALL aftermarket items was only $20 a year more than what I was paying thru USAA and actually got $30 a day more coverage in rental reimbursement . If you have any aftermarket items on your trucks, make sure you keep receipts, mail copies of them to your agent so he/she can keep them in your file and take pictures. In the event of a theft, you have proof of what had been done and the insurance company won't drag their feet and the process will be much faster.

Aftermarket add ons are usually not covered under the basic policy, or there's a specified limit. Your insurance rate is based on the truck, not what you've added. Read your policy carefully about what's covered and what isn't.
Unfortunatly, you're about to get hosed.
In the future, make sure you get with the insurance agent to get the value of the vehicle increased to account for the add ons.

cbrahs, you made me feel a little better. I have USAA also and they have never hosed me. The agent left me a message that told me they depreciate he items year to year, after 5 years old it is 0 or something like that..... I should get 50-70 percent on the items is what it is looking like...... glad I didnt owe much on the truck though....

USAA is awesome. I had a vehicle totaled(not my fault) and the other drivers insurance didn't want to pay anywhere near what the value of the vehicle was.USAA called me to ask how the claim was coming along and after informing them of everything they payed me the amount I was asking and went after the other guys insurance. They took my word on some of the stuff done to the truck and never hesitated. Hopefully they will look after you just as good.

I had never had a problem with USAA either. When someone tried to steal my truck back in Aug of 07, USAA was on top of it and we had to file an ammended claim and there was NO issues. I just needed commercial insurance for the construction company and could not beat the deal with the amount of coverage for only $20 more a year.

I've always had good luck with USAA on my truck insurance. However wait till you get your updated USAA homeowners insurance. They increase rates in Texas almost 20%.
