Aftermarket gauges

I have a 2004 2500 4x4 with a stock Cummins I used to my 9,000 lbs 5th wheel RV. I have no desire to modify it except that since this is my first diesel and I use it primarliy to pull the RV it seems I should consider installing EGT and transmission temperature gauges. The problem is that I'm not sure I trust the Dodge dealer to do it correctly and without taking my wallet for a ride but I don't want to jeopardize the Cummins warranty. Any suggestions? Does Cummins have local/regional shops that could do this properly (& without breaking the bank)? Between the truck and the RV I have a big investment so I want to do this right and take care of the truck. Thanks.

Installing the guages yourself will not void warranty check out di procol's white face gauges they are a good match for your truck. Gauges can't void warranty they just monitor they have no performance effect and do not alter the way your engine runs. So don't let that factor your decision

not to scare ya, BUT they could void the warranty IF you left some metal shaving from the drilling and screw up your turbo... this is why i am wanting the dealer to do mine when i get some, but they wont unless i find some from mopar...

You could probably get someone to help you install them yourself. I just got together with someone from here that lives close to me and he helped me put them in. I know Dodgzilla live in Northern Va somewhere. Welcome to DTR you should join the Virginia chapter.

If you still want to install the various monitoring equipement but don't want actuall gauges then try this on for size.

They sell the X-Monitor. It is a digital gauge setup that will allow yo to keep your egress handle.
I have one installed and you can se pics on my members pics page.

Gauges

jamespatrick4,

I haven't ever heard of a dealer giving a guy a hard time because of gauges, it will make them look real hard at you for other mods though as they assume you have gauges to watch for hotter EGT's because of added fuel boxes etc.

We stock the Auto Meters and DiPricol's as well as all the gauge mounts and even a factory built gauge installation harness and color matching paints and primers. Even better yet we have the A pillar mounts that are built form the same material Dodges makes their A pillars out of and you don't even have to paint them they just bolt on and you don't have to cut up your factory pillar to do it. Someone else mentioned the DiPricol's as they were built just for the 2003+ Dodges and really look great, we sell a lot of them to the Dodge owners beacuse of that. The harness has all the little items that most self installers/first timers forget to get and end up making three trips to the hardware store for plus it makes the install very profrssional looking and easy to do.

Give us a call or visit our site and we will be glad to help you.

We have complete gauge kits with all the items you need to do this yourself. If you go tot he bottom of this page you will see the install instructions for gauges in your truck. http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/gauges If you don't want to do it yourself, then you should be able to find a local shop you trust to follow these instructions.

IF you install gauges the only problem you might run into warranty wise is if you install the pyrometer pre-turbo, there is always the chance that something could happen and if it screws up your turbo, the will not cover your warranty for a new one. I have also heard of dealerships denying warranties just by seeing installed gauges, although I dont see how they could denie a warranty just because of gauges, they should encourage it in my opinion.

I never had any problems with the dealer with my old truck and the warranty. I had the gauges on the a-pillar and the muffler removed. The comp was in the ash tray. But I only took the truck in for the windshield wipers and a popping noise in the front end.

When I took the truck to trade it for my 4.5 the dealer and I were in a battle over the price. At one point he said that they were being more than generous with the price on my trade, because it had been modified and had gauges. I told the salesman then "look, my trucks never been shut off with the exhaust going through the turbo over 300 degrees." Then I asked him to have the driver that drove my new truck to the dealership, from upstate NY, come into the showroom and tell me what the exhaust gas temp was when he shut off the new truck.

That was the last time they mentioned anything about the truck having gauges.
