AFE Pro 7 - hard to clean - tips?

My AFE Proguard 7 filter wants to stay dirty. I used the AFE recharge kit's cleaner as per the instructions and more dirt and oil remains than I care for. So, I think the cleaner is a little too weak (way on the safe side). Anyone one have a known tip to really get that sucker clean? I won't be happy until all the dirt and most the oil has been removed.

Thanks

I cleaned mine last week. I used Simple Green and a bucket of hot water. Dunk, swirl, lift, repeat, and then change the water. I tried the cleaner with the kit and didn't like the results. The hot water and cleaner/degreaser worked well for me.

I haven't tried it yet, but I have heard that the K & N cleaner works on the aFe's much better than aFe's own cleaner does.

I used the K&N cleaner and oil on mine and it always cleaned it up like new. The K&N kit only costs like $15.00 I think.....
