how to adjust the speedometer.

I changed tire sizes on my truck. anyone know how to change the speedometer to make it correct?

I went from 315 70 r 17 to 265 70 r 17

I wish I didn't but I did.....

My gears on my truck are 4;10 so i think the 265 tires aren't the best...what do you guys think???

Speedometer calibration on your truck is done electronically. Did you change it when you went from stock up to the 315's?

The dealer can do it, but some of them like to charge a ridiculous fee.

On second thought... what year is your truck? Certain earlier years are not electronic, but based upon the fact you have 17" wheels I assumed you have a late model truck.

What year?

On 06-07s, youre limited to adjusting for 285s(so the speedo might not be TOO far off)

On 03-05s you can do 35+ I believe, dealer can reflash it.
Dont let them screw you on the labor though, most still want an hour or two of labor(even though it only takes a few minutes) AND alot of guys have had it done for $30-40, I havent had that luck down here in Texas though, im looking at $90-150, ill leave it be.

For you its more important though, if it was corrected for the 35s, your speedo will be reading much higher with the 265s...

Just curious, why did you go down? And back to 265s? I would have at least stuck with some 285s/295s...

I should have stayed with the 315s

originally they put some 315s on it and i went back to the 265s I thought that would be good but then now I now it wasn't. The speedo had been corrected for the 315s....My next set of tires will be the 315s though...

I was having a hard time find 315s in a LT truck tire. I doing 99 percent highway miles and I didn't want a loud tire. Then I found out my truck has 4:10 axle and it seems as if it is geared to low now.

I can use my gps to tell how fast I am going I guess. It seems to be off by a lot.

My truck is a 2004 with a 6 speed manual..
