additional fuel pump

alright, I have a question... It seems to me that it's not a question of whether or not the lift pump will go out, but when will it go out. So why not install another "lift" pump on the frame of the truck. So essentially, you have 2 lift pumps, if one goes out you'll still have the other. Will that work? Or do I not know enough about the problem (which could very well be the case)?

Only problem with that is when the primary pump fails, often it doesn't allow fuel to pass through, which kills the secondary pump as well.

Other than that, many have done this, and refer to the secondary pump as a "pusher" pump.

OK then what about a pressure relief ran across the orignal pump, If it fails pressure from the pusher pums goes up trips the pressure switch to still allow fuel to bypass the now bad pump to get ya home?? My LP is on its way out and I'm researching on how to remnedy this situation now.

I made a Stainless steel bracket at work to mount the Carter pump on the inside of the frame back by the tank. Used a relay to trigger the 'new' pump, and ran 3/8 fuel hose from the tank to the filter housing. I then left my weak pump on the side of the motor, unplugged the wire, and capped the lines. Now if my new pump goes out or gets weak, I can hook the old pump in series to get me down the road a little. Having the 2 pumps at once was way too much psi.
