Most 1990 or newer GM products have very nice interior mirrors with 2 way lights: they come on with interior lights, and they have switches for manual control.

the interior lights on most cars blind the driver, but these GM mirror lights can be aimed by moving the mirror around to the person holding the map.

this is an AWESOME MOD for jeep wranglers.

pretty useful when you are lost & need to look at the map constantly.


the mirror has 3 leads:
hot
ground
switch

the 2003's cycle the interior lights different
if someone wants to do this, PM or post, and I will find some 2003 wiring diagrams to study, or get in there with a multimeter, and post up.



the 2006's cycle the positive,
so you would hook it up as follows:

black - hot
orange - ground
white - switch.

the pics are a 2006, and, i used the CARGO LIGHT wire - this lights up the mirror lights with my perimeter

i used the scotch lock connectors - it was hot & buggy out there.
it's better to skin the wire, twist & solder.

but's easier to scotch lock them....



the 3 wires



make sure you get PLENTY of wire. pull down the front edge of the head liner, and just push it up in there, it will go back aways.

swirl it around the OEM wires to keep it from falling in the bolt area.




black is ground, gray is hot, white is switched (cargo light)



pull the rubber molding off to put the cover back on. don't forget the tabs at the bottom.

my mascot - we do youth group fundraisers at Chik-fil-A, so they break out the "wheel" and you win prizes. i could used a sammich better, but oh well...

here's a bump for some better interior lighting.

it's kinda goofy hooked up to the cargo light,

i do not recommend that.

when you back up, if you use the perimeter lighting, and your back up camera comes on, the mirror lights come on, and wash out the back up monitor.

it's neat if you want to illuminate your interior at the same time as you light up the perimeter lighting

so think about it.
