How to add cruise control to a truck that did not come with it?

I have a 1995 2500 cummins 5 speed. It is a base model with no cruise control. I see that all Dodge trucks from this era used the same servo. I have the steering wheel switches. What else would I need to do this? The wiring, vacuum hoses and a throttle cable. Anything else?

Has anyone else done this? Was it hard to do?

Anyone have a complete swap they want to sell?

I have a 94. All I had to do was change the clockspring and add the switches. Other than that I had to adjust the brake light switch, but it had 280000mi on it at the time. Everything else was already there. I saw the servo under the battery when I got it. I asked the dealer if the truck came with cruise; he looked it up and said no; it was a base option truck. He said I can add it for $800. I said I think I can do better than that. The previous owner did not add the stuff so it must have come from the factory that way.

There may be a wiring plug there but I glanced in and did not see a servo down there. Is the connector a flat 4 pin one?

It is a 4 pin connector on the servo under the battery. A servo off a 1500 should work (the cable is longer but thats no big deal). All I can say is get a servo, clockspring and buttons. I got the buttons off ebay before I found a clockspring and direct wired them to the clockspring plug to test it. Find a 1500 and get it all at once.

The PCM also needs to be programed for cruise if it didn't come with it.

Yes but yours had a servo too.
The base trucks I've worked on didn't have one.
Makes me wonder...

I have also never seen a non-cruise truck that had a servo. I think someone was confused at the factory the day that one was built.

I installed cruise on a couple of 2nd gen trucks years ago, and the PCM was capable of recognizing that the truck had cruise control, as soon as the system was switched on the first time. So, chances are that you will be OK as far as the PCM goes.

The wiring may or may not all be there. There may be a servo connector, The brake lamp switch may have all 6 wires going to it, same with the clockspring and PCM. If you have a wiring diagram and a junkyard close by, it won't be bad to do.
