I got to reading a few post on here about other peoples tranny temps being in the 150 range or higher. I never see anything over 105 on the outlook moniter. I never tow anything and these temps are on the highway on several 5 hour trips. I only have 3500 miles on the truck so is this about normal or is the BD just not that precise??

Also while on the same road trip, I have my cruise set and when going down hill the tranny seems like it cuts out and comes back almost like a surging but harder. Is this normal with the 48re or what?

Mine has been right on i dont think the PMT would make a differance Mine runs hotter than yours 160 170 range

When I had mine it would start at 100 degrees and work down to 85 as the trans got warmer. I sent the Outlook monitor back and the new one did the same thing.

Your readings on highway speeds should be anywhere from 140*-180* unloaded. Stop and go traffic it will be alittle hotter. Sounds like your monitor is off.

The surging could be your BD. I had acouple of tuners/programmers and nevered experience that or even in stock. I am sure someone w/a BD will chime in.

Before saying anything about the accuracy of teh BD monitor shouldn't someone be asking about where he has the sensor mounted? That would make a difference. If in a tranny test port, my guess is 50-70 degrees cooler than if in the outgoing line from tranny to cooler. Just my comment.....

Doesn't BD have instruction on how to hook up the Sensor?

Quad has directions but they suggest in the tranny test port. It dosen't read very well there, about 50-70 degrees low. If in the outgoiing line much more accurate. Don't know about the Bully Dog but thought I'd bring it up. If in a test port it probably will read low.

I really dont know where it is located. I had someone else do it at the place where i bought it. Does the bully dog have a sensor or does it read it off the engine wiring some how like the fuel pressure?

When I got in my truck earlier and started it it read 135 and then when i start to pull away it works its way back down.

On your 07 the outlook is reading the ECM info through the OBD port. The factory sensor for the transmission is in the pan. Mine rarely reads over 120 when towing, rarely over 100 when empty.

The surging could be the Outlook. I am not sure what the exact cause is but, the do something weird with the MAP sensor and a lot of people have had weird annoying little problems until the unhooked the Outlook and then it went away.

i am not certain but, I think it has something to do with how they try and de-fuel or change power levels. I am pretty certain they do something with the MAP sensor.

My try just unhooking it or something and see if it goes away.

Also I am not sure on accuracy but, I do not like OBD2 for reading any critical data. I have made some long posts explaining why in the past and it might be worth a search.

Things like IAT, MPH, RPM, are ok but many parameters should be monitored in different ways. OBD2 was not meant to be a source for a "gauge" but, to be used as a diagnostics tool.

It sounds like the outlook defueling you, a guy on here had your same problem a few days ago he increased his defueling safety limits and that took care of it. I believe the new outlooks do egt,coolant temp, and tranny defueling so check em all.

I have the Tripple Dog with the Outlook. The outlook just reads the temperature from the ECM, so the big question is where does the ECM read the temp?
