Whats the acceptable oil pressure range for us? A bud of mine is seelin 10PSI at idle, 18 at 750. Need a new oil pump??

Oil Flow Rate :
Minimum Oil Pressure @ Idle: 10 psi
Minimum Oil Pressure @ Rated: 30 psi
Regulated Oil Pressure: 65 psi
Oil Filter Bypass Diff. Pressure: 20 psi

Sounds like he's just barely OK. You can pull the pump out and check the clearances, if they are good it's time for bearings.

you said 10psi at idle and 18 at 750... what is his idle speed? if idle is around 800 or so he should be fine, unless i am reading it way wrong...

Im not sure what his idle speed is set to. Hes got a 90 D-350 dually, 727, 3.07 rear ratio truck. He said he was going to bump the idle up tp gain some PSI. I'll let him know when I talk to him later.
How do u check the tolerances on the oil pump/bearings? I'll do a search, but I havent ever seen it in the past year Ive been here, so this outta take a while! lol

is the factory gauge a good way to diagnose a problem, or should i get a mech gauge to really check it.

It's allways a good idea to check your oil preassure with a mechanical guage.

You have to pull the oil pump (behind the timing cover) and check the clearance between the rotors and also the thickness of the rotors vs. the depth of the housing.

If you are going to check bearings you might as well roll in new ones while you have the pan off.

What oil are you running? That can have alot to do with oil pressurre!

what is the threads for the oil pressure sending unit, im just gonna get a mech one and just plug it into the stock hole hopefully.

1/8" npt, standard pressure gauge stuff.

You can also plug it into the top of the oil filter housing, There is a little plug there waiting for you.

well say im just trying to check it once, could i use a boost gauge and plug it into the oil pressure place, then just put it back into the manifold

alright i just hooked up an old crappy PSI gauge to the before filter plut and it showed around 60 psi at idle and 80 psi at about 14-1500 rpms, does this sound right or like i have a screwed up gauge
