AC quit.......

Well during our move to FL from OR the A/C quit working. Blows slightly cooler than outside air, and the compressor keeps cycling on/off. We stopped and got a pressure gauge. According to the gauge the system is filled correctly. Since we just moved the FSM is packed, somewhere I'm kinda thinking it seems like a temp sensor/switch???? Any help.......

I had a similar problem. Not knowing a lot about it, I went and had it checked out. Would you believe it was a fuse? I don't know about a 2001, but on a '97 the horn and AC motor are on the same fuse! $0.69 later, I was cool as a cucumber...

Had the exact same problem with the fuse. Horn shorted out so I pulled the fuse. This was in December, then summer came along and A/C wouldn't budge. Took most of 30 minutes (one summer later) for the DODGE tech to figure it out.

Wow. Wish it had been so simple on mine. TWO compressors, a condensor, a dryer, and three evac's and refills and we're back in business. The original compressor failed, and when it did it spewed it's metallic guts all over and through the system. Really looking back my mechainc said he should have replaced the condesor as well the first go-around. In the end, the parts were nealry $1000, but my mechanic only charged four hours of labor. I really appreciate those guys, they took a hit on this one. Hope it's not this much for you...

What does the low side show? When the compressor cycles off, it the low pressure at or below 20 lbs? The low pressure switch kicks the compressor out at 20 psi, on the low side.

I bought one of those gauges that read and hold the pressure. It doesn't constantly read. I'll have to go find another gauge. The compressor kicks on and off. so I didn't think it would cause the compressor to cycle. but I'll try to get one. What about shorting out the switch as a test?

Shorting the switch might tell you a little, but be careful you don't cause the problem it was designed to avoid, a lack of R134 to pump, and possible compressor damage.
You really want to see the high and low pressure readings, but at a minimum, the low pressure side.

UPDATE!!!!

Well driving around town in my Dad's truck. NO AC sux! Bought a set f manifold gauges for R134A. The high pressure side is leaking gotta take it back, but did find out the on the low side, when the compressor is on the pressure on thelow side drops ntil the low pressures switch cuts out the compressor. pressure builds back up till the compressor kicks in again, and this cycle repeats. Wife did some online searching found wal-mart has some 134A sealer, or more like o-ring reconditioner. bought a quick refill kit, has a hose and gauge with a can of refridgerant/selaer, and a spare can of R134A. So far the smaller can froze up during that and got about 1/2 of it in. The system is still a little low, but blows way cold again!! I think I also found the leak after all this. It might be the low side test port. Where the system is filled. Looking at that its a whole line that needs to be replaced. I haven't decided if I'll do this right away or wait a little until the leaks gets a little worse, or better yet that sealer works and seals it. Any one have a price on the low pressure line that goes to the compressor??
