AC questions

I've been reading the posts here about bad diverter doors and since I'm about to replace the evaporator, should I replace the doors also? Have the new doors been upgraded or would I just be replacing what I have with the same thing? The local Dodge dealer just gave me a price of $750. for the labor if I supply the evaporator...$1125. with his evap. I can get one from Advance Auto for $92. Dealer said they can do it in a day....$750. for a day's work. Sheesh...sounds high to me, but maybe I'm just I'm too old and still living in the past. I might try to replace it myself if not for fear of having too many left over parts when I finished. What's ironic to me is I can buy compressor, evap, condenser, lines, dryer, blower motor for $1500. to $2000 and buy a window unit with all the same parts at Home Depot for $150 bucks!

Depends on what year your truck is ... fill out your signature so we know.
It used to be a problem, but they have fixed the issue. Not sure what year has the "fixed" housing (Im sure someone will chime in who knows the year).
I have an early 07 and had to have mine fixed, but don't know if I had the corrected one or the old style.

Pulling the dash and getting to the HVAC case doesn't look like too much of a job. It would be evacuation of the AC system and recharging that I think the average Joe would have to have done.

Not sure about the blend doors. I think there was an update for the housing and couplers.

If you have the dealer do it, I think I'd opt for their parts. If the auto parts store evap were to spring a leak, the store would likely only offer you an exchange or refund, and the dealer would charge you labor again.
