Question ABS sensor and Fuel gauge

Funny thing, I have had an ABS light and Park Brake light on for four months. After two months my Fuel gauge started to stick on full after filling up at certain fuel depots. And would then return to normal after refuelling at other stations. Eventually it just stuck on full.

One morning on my way to work, thought it be good to drain water seperator. Did not realize the valve stuck open a wee bit and it pumped a half tank of fuel down a long strech of road.

Noticed the problem when i stopped at work, Quite the smell, and so i tapped the valve, and it closed.

However it pumped enough fuel out that i did not make it to fuel station, ended up getting a Tow home, Three tow trucks later, but thats a long story.

Once home purged the air and fired her up.

I finally got sick of looking at the lights, read a bunch of info here, and checked my service manual and decided I would try replacing the rear wheel speed sensor, and look for a sending unit for the fuel tank.

Dealer only items here in ontario. They wanted $550 for complete fuel sending unit for top of tank, Fuel lines are also very corroded where they come out of tank, $75 for just the float and $50 for the speed sensor. After looking at the sending unit I decided to leave it for now and just get the speed sensor.

After easily replacing the speed sensor in the rear diff. I turned on the key, and VOILA No ABS idoiot light and no Parking Brake light and The Fuel gauge started reading correctly, and has worked great ever since

Any explanations?

Are the fuel gauge and ABS sensors on the same ground or is this just a freaky coincidence and eventually my fuel gauge will go for a crapola again.

Thanks for alll the info. This forum has helped me and my friends many a time.

I don't think they have anything in common, except they all run through the computer. My fuel gauge acted similar to yours. It seemed like every other fill up it would quit, or read weird. I finally replaced it. All's well now.

Check junk yards for the fuel sending unit/pickup tube tower. Get a new sending unit and put it on there. If you have problems hunting down the pickup tube tower PM me and I'll see if I can help. The dealer price on that part is ridiculous.
