ABS Brakes? (Cylinders)

I have had to hit the brakes a few times and the Abs does not seem to work. Any ideas on what to check.... also the abs and brake light come on occasionally then when i turn the truck off and restart at a later time they don't light up. any ideas....

Thanks,
Hoss15

The rear drums on our rigs are terrible in stock form. The adjusters hardly keep up unless you do a lot of reversing, and the cylinders arer undersized. I put in the larger 1 ton cylinders from napa (somebody help me out with the part number?)what a ton of difference. My abs will actually kick in now on panic stops and you can actually feel the rears grab as the rear end kind of squats to a stop. The new cylinders are about $14.00 ea and well worth it.

If you haven't had your speedo recalibrated to your tire size, the ABS will not act right.

Check your speed sensor in the top of your rearend that will cause all those problems.

I replaced the cylinders last night with the ones infidel suggested and what a difference. Thanks for the advice.

Now one question: before the install the truck would not pull to the left, now afterwards it pulls to the left when driving and when braking (more so when driving). Did i over adjust the left side and that is causing the pulling or could it be something with bleeding the lines improperly? Oh yeah i also rotated the tires and they seem to be ok.

Thanks,
Hoss15

If it's pulling to the left the right rear side is the problem. Most likely need to bleed it some more or adjust the left side tighter.
Many times after messing with the shoes it takes some braking to recenter them. If you adjusted the brakes before they recentered you likely need to readjust.

Mine was the same way, shortly after doing it the truck was pulling to one side under braking. I left it alone and now it seems fine. I just let the adjusters set themselves in reverse after getting it in the ballpark by hand.
