abs and brake light, spongy pedal slow to return.

Troubles. After searching all of the many threads on this subject, I think I have something different.

99 2500 4x4. ABS and Brake light come on after the first use of the brake pedal. Speedo and cruise are working. Brake pedal is spongy and slow to return. I just adjusted the rear brakes and did a complete brake fluid flush. After this is when the lights/pedal occurred.

Here's the kicker. Left my headlights on by accident and ran the battery down to almost no crank, but luckily it did start, but my ABS and Brake light went off and my pedal went back to a normal feel, and brakes seemed to be more responsive. After about 5 or 6 braking cycles, my lights and spongy pedal returned.

Any thoughts?

you probably inadvertently reset your ABS module. same as disconnecting your batteries or pulling fuse #14.

are your abs/brake lights off now?

Lights were off for only 5 or 6 brake pedal "touches" after the near battery drawdown, then came back on along with the return of the "spongy peddle". I pulled my ABS fuse today in the shop and upon replacing it, I now have lights off, but I haven't road tested it yet to see how long it will last.

ok, you should check abs codes.

not sure on a 99 but on my 96 you can get the abs codes with a test light.
