AAMCO Tranny service
Has anyone used AAMCO Transmission to change their tranny fluid? AAMCO claims that they will totally flush the whole transmission including the torque converter. Is this true or is it another marketing scam? $109 to change the fluid and the filter. Good price or not? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lots of places use trans flush machines nowdays. The price seems fair but I don't think that would usually include the filter because the pan does not come down when using a flush machine. Ammco Transmissions has a pretty bad reputation around here. JMHO

I agree that price seems cheap if a filter change is included. Consider that 20 qt. will be needed to flush that transmission. Make sure they use ATF plus 4. A lot of those transmission chains have a big drum of dexron that they use in everything, and they aren't doing you any favors if that's how they do it.

Do WHAT?? Dealer giving you a LINE! Had TWO flush machines in the store I was at and the other dealers I've been into all had them and have had for several years.Ban adjust is a left over whatever from the days of VALANTS.Ask any GOOD tranny builder.NO one does ban adjusts cause their never OUT unless unit is cooked already and its not cooked cause of a ban adjust.Flush machines BEST thing to over happen to a auto trans and the public for auto trans longevity.

i just got back from dropping off my truck at the dealer for a monday morning tranny fluid flush. they quoted me 169.00 for the service. they were the only dodge dealer in my area that does flushes, so i really could not shop around for the best price. all the other dealers only drop the pan and refill!

This post prompted me to check my invoice from AAMCO. Sure enough, they used DEXRON III / Mercon.
Obviously, that's not what DC specs for this or probably any DC vehicle.
How urgent is it that I get that fluid out? I towed with that fluid & all seemed well to me, should I just go with a very short interval (maybe 5-10k miles) to svc again w/ATF+4 or should I be in a panic?
I wonder if fresh Dexron & filter are healthier for the trans than old ATF+4?
Thanks guys.

Indeed, I plan to speak with the AAMCO shop.
Can you guys chime in on how urgently I need to get the fluid swapped. Am I headed for a rapid trans blowup with the Dexron or do you think a couple of trips probably won't kill it till' I can get it swapped out?
Thanks.

Pick up some trans additive called Lube Gaurd, they make a specific bottle to convert Dexron to Plus4 . The trans shop I use for my shop, adds it to every trans he builds regardless of brand. In Six years, probably 30 transmissions, the've done for us, none have come back with a problem. Just a thought for you.
It's one of the few additives that I believe actually does something. We've used it to fix some shuddering probelms in Fords so I know it works.

+4 is a synthetic fluid with friction modifiers to minimize shudder. Dexron is not synthetic. I would drain the pan, change the filter, and top off with +4 or Pennzoil multi-vehicle atf right away. The stuff you've got won't hurt the trans, but it can't handle the heat or prevent the shudder problems either.

I have 180K on the original tranny. I've had it flushed 3-4 times dropped the pan twice. Don't let anyone tell you flushing a tranny is a bad thing. They DON'T know what they are talking about.
