Question Does the 98-99 HD Steering work for a 2000-02 ???

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=220996

so i have been researching this steering set up and have heard that a 98-99 hd version thats similar to the new 08 steering set up will work on the 2000-2002 trucks, i have seen this on a 96 axle and was wondering if this set up will work on my rig?

dodge says the new 08 t style will not work because of the aam knuckle ball joint tapers and a different angle on the pitman arm etc...

so would the 98-99( it looks just like the 08 t style ) stuff have the same ball joint taper as my Dana 60, they are all the same D60 axles those years right?

i looked at Macs page and the t style hd set up is way beefier than the ld stuff for sure, his was on the 96 axle though

anybody know whats up ...?

You can put the inverted T steering in place of your inverted Y setup. I cannot remember what must be used from your model year, but I believe it's the pitman arm side of the drag link. Everything else swaps.

Can't say for sure on the 2000, but it fits the 97 back perfectly.

I would do it if I were you, I love mine.

i already talked with Don, he suggested this other set up, but wasnt exactly sure what the details were, he said there is some issues with his set up still or i would have been all over it, i think he said it creates bump steer, so he put both tre and dle on the bottom of the knuckle, not one on top one on bottom like the pic

i checked with napa and they actually have this stuff so i'll check it out next week when i buy all my parts and see if it will work, i sure hope so

anyone for sure...???

i've read its just the pitman arm tre that you reuse from what i've seen

do the pre 2000 rigs have the same d60 axle and knuckles?

Same D60, different knuckles, but I am pretty sure the only diff is the way the balljoints fit.

Moog lists a different part number between 1997 and 2000, but I am not sure the parts still will not fit.

for anyone thinking about swapping out there inverted y steering for the inverted t steering found on the 98-99 2500 3500 trucks ...... it will not fit the 2002.5 2500 dana 60
it will physically bolt in but the tie rod ends are not the right taper they is 30 thousands too small at the base of the joint ..... and if run it is very dangerous and the joint can fail at any moment b/c of excessive play
the dana44 (1500) do interchange though, little good that does us.
Guess I'll have to live with the bump steer instead of the death wobble. Tired of puckering up whenever I hit a bump on the freeway.
I found this info on another site.

so is that taper different than the 2000-2002 d60 stuff? or is it the same d60 and the wrong tapers as the 2002.5? or was 2000.5 when they went to the aam axle?
is your 2002.5 an aam and not a d60? dont know when they switched all that

all these half year changes on these trucks is confusing

Found it on Pavement Sucks.com. Use the search tool similair to DTR(just look up "inverted t steering" in the Dodge 4x4 forum). Most of them have 1500/half tons from what I've seen, a lot of them say it is interchangable but they are running the half tons. The quote was from a user owning a 2500. Mean Grn, I just cut and pasted the info I found. Sorry, not my truck. I am assuming the taper IS different. I just hope I kept you from buying something you couldn't use. If I was wrong, my bad.

I am not sure if there is any difference on '02.5 vs '02. I guess we could get the knuckle part number and compare.

Keep in mind that the 1500 series trucks changed to the new body style in '02. Maybe that's what they are talking about? Could the 1500 trucks have used Dana axles early and AAM later?

After some reading, apparently 01 1500 and 2500 will interchange the inverted T steering so I am assuming will also work between those years. Two of the vehilces had the Dana 60 swapped into thier 1500's. These are the parts they say they used. Sorry for any confusion.
