I went to a local hydraulic shop here and he said the hose he has wouldn't seal with a hose clamp, which was a single steal braded hose

You can have ends pressed onto the hydraulic hose that have compression fittings to go to the hard line, I made my own lines with them when the auto was in my truck never had any issues with them

Hydraulic hose is an overkill.
Pressure in the hoses never exceeds about 50 psi.
All you need is a hose that resists ATF and high temperatures.
No need for braided hose which doesn't hose clamp well.

I agree the hydraulic hose is overkill, however after having trans lines that were hose clamped come off on cars, I will go for overkill everytime, I feel better knowing they can't ever come off!

The original steel lines connect to push-connectors and those connectors are on a rubber hose that's hose clamped onto the trans cooler. They don't blow off do they? Mine haven't..... yet.....

Hmmm, I don't remember there being clamps on mine when I pulled the cooler out when I swapped the five speed in, but now you have me thinking, I will have to have a look! I didn't say they will blow off everytime they are hoseclamped, its just I have had it happen, and have a habit of doing things to ensure reliability for my own piece of mind that's all.

No worries that's what we are all here for is to share ideas and learn different ways to do things, I'm a little over the top about how I do things, and all about learning new things!!

I might even use abraision resistant hose

otherwise it'll be low pressure hose, I know I don't need the high pressure for this application.
anyways, I recently got a hole rubbed in my tranny cooler line and it cost me a rebuild - backed up a hill with no oil in it
well anyways, I don't ever want to see fresh tranny oil on the ground again.
besides it won't cost me much to do, friend of a friend should be under $100 bucks to do it

Someone measured the psi in the cooling hoses at another message board.
The 50 psi I spoke of was only during shifting for a short period of time.
Most of the time including locked up OD the pressure in the hoses was under 5 psi.
My truck came new with hose clamped hoses at the front cooler. Hose are only about a foot long before going into steel line.
