97 intermitten voltage reading

i have a 97 12 vavleand just after i redid the KDP kit andfront cover gasketi started to have a charging problem. at start up the truck will run 12.3 volts or whatever the batteries are at and bounce from that to 14.7 then dropback and do this till the truck is warm or goin down the road.ive adjusted the enginespeed sensor its set at .032'' and still the same problem.all the gauges work including the tach no driveablility issues at all. any ideas?

Have you checked for blown fuses?
Maybe you accidentally shorted out the back of the alternator while doing the KDP.

If air preheaters are coming on you will see a voltage drop when heater is on. Normal in cold weather

Mine does the same thing, it's the intake air heater cycling on and off.

yeah the grid heater is cycling on and off wasnt sure if it was regular on a cummins or not its my first winter with the truck. the fuses are all fine and the alternator went just after doing the KDP fix it was on its last leg anyways the oil leak kinda drenched it for 100k miles. thanks for the info!

Ditto on the grid heaters mine does the same, strange how we don't notice untill after we fix something else.
