96 3500 brake rotors

I need to change the bake pads and rotors on my 96 3500 4x4. NAPA lists just the rotor or a hub and rotor assembly. Im not sure which I need, does the hub and rotor assembly include the whole unit bearing? The unit bearings dont really need replaced but if I can replace everything cheap enough I will while I have it apart. I already have a set of Carbon-Metallic pads but one of the rotors has large gouges in it.

It depends on whether you have a 2 or 4wd if you need the bearing.
With 4wd you don't need the bearing, the rotor is cheaper also.

If it is 4WD the rotors are bolted to the hub assembly from the backside. You will need to pull the hubs, look for threads as to how to remove the hub. There is a method that uses a socket on the bottom rear knuckle bolt and the steering wheel to remove the hub. I put new rotors on mine and they were around $75 each from Autozone. There are several manufacturers that have them on the market. I have found that the ceremic pads dont work well on my truck. I went back to a Bendix semi-metallic and all seems well again.

I broke the rotor bolts loose before I took the hub off the truck and disassembly was easier (soak everthing with penetrating oil). All is all, not a reall hard job once you get the hubs off.

Good luck.

I have removed the hubs and everything on my 2000 Ram when I installed the 5.13 gears so Im not worried about taking everything apart. I ended up picking up a set of rotors from Advanced Auto for like $85 for the pair. Just need to get some descent weather, dont have a garage and its been really cold and snowy the last couple days.
