95 47RH lockup

I just bought my 95 4WD with auto and am thinking that the convertor is not locking up. I fell the 1-2, 2-3, 3-OD shifts and they are firm but can't feel the convertor lockup and also when pressing brake pedal I'm getting no RPM increase. What do I need to check? Does the computer control lockup on the 95?

Yes the computer controlls the lockup. It uses inputs from the speed sensor, the trans temp sensor and the throttle position sensor to control it. If you do a search of the threads you should find information on how to "bypass" the temperature sensor (to check if it the problem - inserting a resistor) and how to make a "mystery switch" that will allow you to manually lock the torque converter with a switch.

If it was locking up you would definately feel it.

I feel the 1-2, 2-3, 3-OD but no lockup is occuring. I have checked the TPS with the instructions I found here and readjusted the voltage and also checked the connectors at the transmission but still can't achieve lockup, otherwise the tranny is shifting great and fluid doesn't smell burnt. Is it safe to run the trans this way without pulling a load or am I risking burning it up? Need all the help I can get with this one, don't want to go to dealer. Is it possible that some early models didn't have lockup converters as my dad's 93 CTD?

Once you have reached the final gear, what happens if you floor it? Go up to about 75 and hit the go pedal. If the tac goes nuts, no lock up.

Otherwise, ground the pin indicated in the mystery switch instructions and try again. (forget the pin #...23????)

With OD locked out the shift pattern is 1-2,2-3/ no lockout in 3rd.
Where is pin 23? As far as I know I don't have a mystery switch, just a new mystery truck

I changed the brake pedal switch and this didn't cure the problem. If I'm getting voltage to the TPS, would that be an indication that the computer is functioning? Does someone have a wiring schematic that they could send me?
Where can I find the best service manual that would include wiring schematics for a 95?

Infidel,
thanks for all the info.I found a factory service manual for my truck at Geno's for $59.Do you know if the 95 has a TC lockup solenoid in the pan? This thing is kicking my butt.If I've got the tps adjusted correctly, I'm thinking that maybe the solenoid is bad or a broken wire.I've got to figure out how to test voltage at the solenoid and see if it engages.

I've checked the power source to the OD and TC solenoid and I'm getting 12V.I have also tried grounding the TC lockup wire while driving in 3rd and OD and still not getting lockup. My question is.. if I'm getting 12V to center pin and ground the TC wire,orange/black wire, should I be able to hear the solenoid activate while engine isn't running? Does the valve body have to be removed to replace the solenoid for TC lockup?

Man, Ive had the same problems. I did EVERYTHING under the sun, short of replacing the TPS. I tried every remedy, replaced the temp sensor, made the lockup switch, EVERYTHING. I ended up biting the bullet and bought a new TPS. It was a BIG ding in the pocket book, but I installed it in the parking lot at O' Reillys and sure enough, it cured the problem, not to mention it came with lifetime warranty! So if this one goes, all I do is take it back for a new one... Best of luck...
