93?s

i have a 93 diesel willed to me.

its 300miles away so i only know what i remember about it at this point.

owner was a mechanic and this was his baby; garaged didnt go it in rain or snow; and he had another "frankendodge" built out of a couple totaled vehicles and reclaimed title for all work.

this was his baby like i said; as far as i know
4wd reg. cab, manual. it is lifted slightly with non-stock wheels/tires (not huge but a bit larger than stock)

i drive "brown" trucks at work; some of them with the cummins motor; but all with spicers and 2wd. im sure i can handle it but this dodge will have a different transmission im assuming; and the 4wd transfer which i have not used as well. any tips when i go get it? it hasnt moved in 3 months but as mentioned was in perfect condition prior to that. can i just start it up and do the 300 mile drive or should i bring a trailer to pick it up?

any other tips and an approximate value (im not ever selling it but am curious)

Just start and drive it. I have let mine set for a couple of months at a time because of lack of time or money to fix a problem, fix the problem, fire it up, hook on to a trailer and go! How many miles is on the truck, that will set a price. Be sure and check all fluids before leaving, Enjoy......

If it's a manual shift, just pay attention to the shift pattern on the shifter. Since you drive a brown truck, I assume you know how to use a clutch. As for the 4wd selector, it will either be full or part time 4X4. If it's full time, just leave it in 4HI and drive it. Don't use 4HILOC. Regular 4HI is 40/60 torque front and rear. 4HILOC is 50/50. I'm betting it's got part time 4WD. Just leave it in 2HI and drive it. It may or may not have lock out hubs on the front wheels. If it does, make sure they are unlocked. If not, again, don't worry about it. Take a little Iso-Heet along and add to the fuel tank since the older fuel may not be winterized.

You'll want to top off with fresh fuel and after 300 miles, you'll probably need to top off again. This will get any stale fuel out of the system. Diesel does go stale but not like modern gasoline. When I get a new project, the first thing I do is change the coolant, thermostat and also a oil and filter change. This way you KNOW when it was last changed.

Otherwise, treat it like another other vehicle that's been sitting. Clean the tires to get anything out of the treads that may work into them. I like to use a little Blech-white to clean them and see any dry rot. Take some alcohol based window cleaner to clean the inside of the windows and the headlights to get any dirt build up off. Lastly, name the truck. This gives you an interesting, slightly eccentric reputation and if you name it, you'll take better care of it.

1st gens you just put the T-case in 2HI.

Its just your plain old run o' the mill NP205. Put it in 2 and go.

What i'd be worried about is sticking brakes, etc.

Sounds like an awesome truck! 4x4 5 speed trucks are gold these days!

Don't worry about it sitting. My 93 sat under a carport for 5 or 6 months when I was overseas a few years ago. It sat from middle of October until the end of March without running. Came home, got in, cranked her up and away I went.

Just watch the gauges and make sure you build oil pressure after it's started and you should be fine.

Yea the brakes will stick if it's outside. Bring a battery, check the tires for air. Fire it up, make sure you have oil pressure. Drive it home!
