'93 Cummins Ram quit running

Was low on diesel this afternoon and stopped to put in 3 gallons. Fired up fine and drove about two blocks down the street and the motor quit. Tried pumping the LP a bunch and repeatedly bleeding the injectors thinking I got some air in there. It would start periodically and even ran for a minute or so before stopping again. Fuel filter is a relatively new Fleetguard, and it had fuel in it. No codes either.

Any ideas?

Starting the truck and driving a few blocks after fueling up rules out air in the lines.

Sounds like you may have stirred up a bunch of residue in the tank and plugged the screen of the fuel pick-up. '93 was still a metal fuel tank wasn't it? 18yrs will cause a lot of rust that lies dormant until you directly agitate it, such as when you add fuel to an extremely low tank.

Second option is you got bad fuel from the station. Could be algae, water, or some other crap keeping your truck from running. Even thought the filter looks clean, it might not be flowing enough fuel to support your engine and is the quickest, cheapest, and easiest thing to rule out.

Far as I can tell the lift pump is working...I can pump it by hand and feel resistance. Fuel filter was full as well. Drained the fuel filter some too and didn't see anything other that diesel drain out. Like I said earlier it's a Fleetguard that might be only 6 months old or so.

I had it running a couple times...once it ran fine for almost a minute before it quit again. So I think the IP is fine. Might be the fuel shutoff on the pump or the pickup in the tank is plugged, not sure which.

It had about an 1/8 tank in it before adding 3 gallons, but I've driven it that low before and not had issues. Low fuel light had just come on.

I would pull the Fuel solenoid center and try it manually to see if it still does it.

You might have my luck where one issue masks another..........
