Hello, Should I hold out for a 94-98 cummins or are the earlier ones good to go? Im not looking to race, just want a good reliable diesel to swap into my 92 Chevy C3500 dually , Im pulling the 6.5 diesel out of it. It has a NV4500.

The earlier engines would be better for my budget. Looking at a 93 dodge 5 spd locally for a doner, waiting to see if he will come down some more on price. Thanks, Dave

A 1st gen engine would be a huge improvement over a 6.5. The 1st gen engines can easily make 250/600 at the back tires with just free pump tweaks. They also tend to get better mileage than the 2nd gen engines because the pump has variable timing. :)
