83 diesel

What is the consensus of the group concerning the engine and trannies used in the 83 Dodge diesel pickups? Is it a Cummings or is it another brand (was told it is an Isuzu)? What was the tranny options manual, auto (727 or other)?<br>Lug<br>

Re:83 diesel

Not sure what might have been in an '83, might be a custom swap. ??? Have heard of '78-'79's using a Mitsubishi diesel. Cummins did not start until '89 models.

Check out these links.<br><br><br>http://www.thehistoryofcars.com/dodge_truck.html<br><br>http://www.dodgeconnection.com/picture/trucks/Dale.html<br><br>I have seen two of these on ebay in the past. The 1980 IH Scout did have a Nissan turbo I6.

Re:83 diesel

Only reason I knew about the Scout diesel is because a friend put that engine and drivetrain into a Jeep. IH got that combo right, the turbodiesel, a 4-speed and the Dana 300 transfer case. Too bad it was only an option one year. Made a nice conversion. Has a nice turbo whine to it. 8)

That truck is so ugly, it's cool. I like it. Anyone know what the power numbers were for the Perkins?

Jeeper,<br><br> Contact Aaron (the guy selling the truck) he'll tell you what he knows about the Perkins. He's a nice guy (for a Texan ) loves to talk Dodge and shouldn't give you too strong of a sales pitch . <br><br>There're not too many Dodges with them, so there's not a whole lot of info out there. But Aaron knows more than most.<br><br>Tim Way

Re:83 diesel

That was the last of the real trucks there. Not too fast but would generally move anything you hooked up to it.
