nice post above ron...
I just replaced my factory am/fm/cassette in my '01 with a cd/mp3 player from Best Buy. I bought the nice little holder/trim kit ($18) and the wiring connector ($18). I recommend both these items. The trim kit has these little metal wedges that hold the unit tight, and has screw holes for the factory locations. Looks really nice if i do say so myself. This was not your question, but these are the aftermarket wires, says... all colors may not be present....
Red 12v ignition/acc.
Yellow 12v battery/memory for presets.
Black ground
Blue power antenna
Blue/white amp turn on.
Black/white amp ground.
Orange illumination
Orange/white dimmer
Gray right front +
Gray/black right front -
White left front +
White/black left front -
Violet right rear +
Violet/black right rear -
Green left rear +
Green/black left rear -

If you are replacing the head unit and speakers (Infinity) with after market equiptment here is how I wired mine up:
Driver front : splice yellow/red and dark green and new speaker +
splice Yellow/blk to brn/red and new speaker -
Driver rear: splice brn/yellow and wh/violet together then spice
brn/light blue and wh/dk grn together
Passenger front: splice lb/red and violet and new speaker +
splice db/red and lb/blk and new speaker -
Passenger rear: splice db/wh and tan/violet
splice db/or and tan/blk
Just unplug the old rears and reconnect the new rear speakers with the wires you just took off the old speaker
Also tape or insulate the black with red tracer and black with violet wires in both doors. These are the power/ground wires for the amps.
Good luck. Phil

weird truck
maybe i just have a mutant truck but none of the diagrams have made any sense. in my drivers side door i had a 6x9 speaker with a small amp attached to it. i removed it to put in pioneer's and the connector for the speaker has the following wires. red, black, orange, yellow, white, green, blue, gray, brown, violet. comon sense tells me that two wires are for the amp power. Four wires coming in the amp and four going out. so what goes where?

four wires out.... well the amp is also a cross over for the tweeter in the a-pillar. so there is two of your 4, the other two go to the rear speaker on the same side, as the amp drives both front and rear speakers.

When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought well, whatever wire is connected to + you connect to +, whatever is connected to -, you connect to -. I remember wiring my stereo now though. it was a pain.

OK so can someone like make a diagram or something thats like for the guid to stupid people. Im to lazy to be testing them all last time I tried when i was fixing a miror i ended up just getting mad at myself. i have a really really nice deck from alpine. great deck but only the tweeters are on. so is there a way to turn the stock 6x9's on, or bypass the amp? and what if i just want to put in simple new 6x9 speakers and run them off the deck power, what wires do i plug to the new speaker + -? thanks guys. dodge sure made it hard, what happened to just a black wire and a red one?

The wire in the doors are the same wire of the same color at the head unit . Pick you 2 wires at the head unit and use the same color at the speaker in the door. That would be the easy way without running new wire. But this dont address the rear speakers or the tweeters on the A-pillar.
