68RFE or Aisin ?

What is the difference between the 2 ? How can I recognize a new or used truck with the Aisin, 6 speed ?

Does the 68RFE has exhaust brake ? Is it suitable enough for towing ?

Aisin is only available in the Cab and Chassis.

Yes to the exhaust brake, and reports so far indicate the Auto is a good choice to tow.

Aisin is equipped for a PTO as well but 68RFE isn't. Had the chance to drive both.......the RFE is smoother but the Aisin feels much beefier by calibrated butt cheeks. The same unit is used in medium duty cabovers like the Fuso, Hino, etc.

Identification

I can tell you how I identified mine.

I crawled up under and looked at the serial number/part no sticker that is on my trannie. It cleary had, in the bottom right hand corner, the letters RFE.

Like the others said, Aisin, for now, is Cab/Chassis only.

I like the RFE but would love to try an Aisin for kicks. RFE is assembled in Kokomo, IN ...we pass the plant when we go to Michigan on HWY 31.

Thanks
MegaTorque!!
