This is the turbo that has been recommended for my set up. My question is has anybody had any experience with it? I would like to be able to tow once in a while but I mainly use this truck as a daily driver. Would a 62/71/14 be too big?

If you use mostly for daily driving, that turbo should be fine. I run it and lag isn't much of a problem unless I really lug it in overdrive. Towing I don't see a problem either, as long as you watch your EGT's and know when to cruise/tow around with OD off and on.

Well in my opinion... id go with the 62/71/13ss...... quick spooling and will run cooler than the 14 housing. I have the 64/65/13ss and its laggy, i used to have the 64/71/14 and i think it spooled quicker, that 71 wheel makes a huge difference! So if you can fork out the extra cash for it id go with the 62/71/13ss, im no turbo guru but from my experience and my buddies... who has gone through probably 10 different setups (no joke) Id say thats the better route.

I went from a 62/71 to a 64/71, and the spool is the same if not a hair better. I am real surprised/impressed by it. I wouldn't go with a 65mm. A friend has a 62/65/.7 and says it gets real hot towing and he dynoed a bit over 400hp. Granted its a 12v, but it still chokes.

Notice that both have a little more fuel then you though. And take altitude into account. As a DD youd prob be good with either one.
IMO, Im runnin a super B 57/65/14 now and I couldnt imagine tryin to keep the smoke down up here at 4,200 ft with a 64/71/14. Especially while towing in stop and go like I do. But thats purely just me.

If you are running your stock turbo right now and are leaving your fuel mods the same, I think you will be very pleased with a 62/65/14.

I have a 62-65/12 and its nearly imposable to tow with, I started with a 14 and it was worse. No cooling below 2400 rpms while towing with the 12 housing. I'm going to go through the whole system and recheck for leaks and make sure that the turbo is not leaking. If everything is OK I'm going to go with a variable turbo.

Your having trouble cooling with just a Smarty? Or do you have some other mods. not in your signature? The 14 housing actually ran hotter than the 12 while towing? That's the opposite of what I expected. On a side note does anybody know why my sig. isn't showing up on every post? Seems like it goes missing every couple of posts. After editing it shows up. Stupid thing!

I'm at 3500 feet, so its not too far from where you're at. I don't tow though. Also take into account that total available fuel will mainly affect top end boost capability. I never use full fuel in normal driving.

I havent towed with MY 14 yet cause I only tow for summer work, But around town I have noticed I run hotter then with the 12. The top end is where ive noticed the temp drop with the 14.

Like I said I think the 71 would prob do good for DD. But towing around town with it seems like it''d be too big IMO.
