6 volt Deep Cycle Batteries

Does anyone know the best place to buy two 6 volt Deep Cycle Batteries? I have on1 12 volt now and do a lot of dry camping. I end up replacing the 12v every spring.

I go to the big membership stores and buy there 6v golf cart batteries. They are made by Johnson Control and rebranded ~70 ea.

Good luck.

Read this write up - - better said than we can. Written in plain English. Very good information. You will quickly understand why many of us go to the 6v "true" deep cycle battery versus the "quasi" RV/Marine battery. Deep cycles will outlast the RV/Marine battery by many times over.

6 volt batteries have lower voltage but higher amperage. Look at the battery cables on an old 6 volt car or truck. Then look at the cables on a newer 12 volt. The 6 volt cables are a LOT heavier. That's why a lot of commercial trucks use 6 volt batteries in series rather than a big honkin 12 volt.

My experience most big trucks class 8, use multiple group 31 stud post. It seems like three group 31 can replace two D8 batteries.

6Vor 12V if you dont take care of them it wont matter that much except the $
But if you maintain them Right 6V Deep cycles are the way to go! way more power!

We camp mostly at a Massachusetts State park where there is no electric hook-ups and we are not allowed to run a generator after 10:00 at night.

I had to do research on batteries for my boat lift and learned a lot.
What really kills batteries is when they are fully drained before recharged. A 12v the battery (12.6v or more = 100%) should be drained to 50% (12v) then recharged. If you are draining them more than that you will need to add an additional battery. You should figure out your total consumption during the night and determine what size of battery(s) is needed. Here are the sites I used, FYI.

http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm

http://www.phrannie.org/phredex.html

It is a simple power = VA , Volts x Amps, 6 volt batteries will have less volts but then will have twice the amps of 12 volt.
